IVF Girls....come on in!
I've had 6 iui's which resulted in once ectopic pregnancy and one chemical, so we're now moving onto IVF. Our IVF consult with our RE is this Wednesday.
What are some of the questions I should be sure to ask? I want to make sure I'm prepared for this important appointment.
Thanks!!!!!

Re: IVF Girls....come on in!
Do you perform all the major procedures in your office?
If I have a question, how available are you to speak to?
Once we come to a treatment game plan, can I be cycled right in?
Does your lab/office close during certain months?
What are your success rates?
Here are some from LaurenExp's old thread:
What is your pregnancy ratio per embryo transfer?
What is your pregnancy rate for couples in our age group and with our fertility problem?
How much does it cost to store embryos and how long can we store them? Does insurance cover this?
What is the live birth rate for all couples who undergo this procedure each year at your facility?
How many embryos do you typically transfer per cycle?
Approximately how many office visits per cycle?
Will I see the same doctor all the way through my treatment?
What drugs do you use and what are the side effects?
Will you give me a print out of the number of follicles I have produced each time I go for a scan?
Will you tell me precisely how many follicles were aspirated from each ovary when I have my egg collection and what happened to each one of them?
Will I be able to stay lying down for half an hour to an hour at the clinic straight after my egg transfer?
Given my age, weight and medical history, what are my realistic chances of achieving a successful pregnancy?
Can all of my testing be completed within one or two cycles?
What kind of monitoring should I expect with a medicated cycle? (Ultrasounds, hormone levels, etc.)
How long do blood tests and other test results take to receive? What is the procedure for getting the results? (Expect a call from nurse, call clinic after certian hour.)
How open are you to discussing information and protocols I may learn about from other sources? (The Internet, Resolve support groups, etc.)
How do you feel about utilizing supplemental forms of treatment along with medications? (Vitamins, acupuncture, hypnosis, therapeutic massage, herbs, etc.)
Is it possible to setup payment plans for things not covered by insurance?
What do I need to know about scheduling weekend procedures?
What is the phone number for off-hours problems?
Is there a directory of phone numbers for office staff and doctors? (For example, some clinics will give you different numbers for contacting a nurse, getting lab results, discussing billing issues, etc.)
Who does morning ultrasounds? What are the hours for labs/monitoring? How long should I expect to be here each morning for monitoring?
How often do you perform ICSI? Blastocyst transfers? Frozen embryo transfers?
Do you have specific expertise with PCOS? What kind of protocol might you suggest to reduce the risk of OHSS? What percentage of your patients experience OHSS?
and from me, just a couple of notes about making the move to IVF...
Know that it's a very difficult emotional journey... I found the emotional difficulty outweighed the physical aspects BY FAR.
Know that unfortunately, it doesn't always works the first time around. I thought with our age and diagnosis that we'd get PG the first time... I was convinced that we WERE pregnant after the transfer - and we weren't... and I was crushed.
Don't fear the retrieval. It'll be the best nap you ever had and you'll wake up in recovery and get to hear about how many eggs they got.
Don't try to plan out the exact dates for everything.. because they might change - many times.
Try to rest after your transfer for 48 hours. Even though there may be no scientific proof behind it, you'll regret NOT doing it if you don't and end up with a BFN.
Don't fear the transfer either. It's like an IUI just kicked up a notch.

Re: IVF Girls....come on in!
Here is a couple of more questions that i learned with my ivf cycle.
What do you do if you cant retrieve eggs or have problems retrieving eggs? Make sure that they have it listed to do an iui in addition to transfer so you dont lose any chances.
What do you do i you dont react to stims right away?
Who does the ER and the ET?
What i learn from my ivf also is if you have anything that doesnt seem right.. ask the nurses but make sure it gets passed to the re. i had hot flashes in the last phase of mine.. i asked the nurses and they said it was normal but when my ivf failed and i asked the re about it.. he said it wasnt normal but nothing was noted in my records that i had asked. also with me they were only able to retrieve one egg. my re was on vac. and they didnt do an iui which would have upped my chances.
I wish you the best..
