Removing Paint from bricks

We recently purchased our first home! Its a ranch house with siding on 3 sides and a brick front. The only problem is the bricks are painted white. Im wondering if anyone has ever removed paint from bricks. Im worried about it either not being successful or damaging and eroding the bricks alot. If its too dangerous or expensive we might just add a new coat of paint to them. Any thoughts! Thanks a bunch!

I was going to say powerwash but then looked it up and found out that its not a good idea because it can ruin the brick. One website said to use gel or paste removers.

Re: Removing Paint from bricks

i am so glad you posted about this. our chimney in the kitchen is painted white and i desperately want to remove it and have it be as rustic looking as possible.

i noted that pp's link was for outdoor, i guess i have to look for interior solutions?

good luck! and congrats on your new home!!

I would love to know if anyone has done this too. Our chimney is painted white and I hate it.

Re: Removing Paint from bricks

My parents house is painted brick (painted before they bought it). The only thing my Dad has found so far is a chemical you spray on, leave, and then have to scrub it off. Needless to say he hasn't gotten very far in the removal process, because it is quite slow. He thought he could get something to powerwash with, but it doesn't seem there is anything.
