So confused about decorating & where to start!
here's my main issue:
I like a lot of different looks that are completely opposite.
For example, I love the shabby chic look.
I also love a zen look, muted colors, relaxing pieces.
I also enjoy a funky look. A splash of zebra print. Beaded pillows. Antrhopologie stuff.
I also love that "academic" look. Globes, worldy decor.
so *** do I do?
i'd like to just pick one and keep it all the same.
Anyone else relate? Tips? Advice?

I'd love to know this too! I was looking through pics that I have saved, and I feel as if they're all over the place..

so what's to be done? lol
i feel i'd be sick of shabby chic easily....
i know i'm done with americana (been there, done that)
i'm leaning towards more funky, cuz then at least I will have an excuse for mixing a few things!

I think I'm going to go with more of the zen look..similar to young house love, because I feel it's what I will get the least sick of over time..
I love pictures of bright colors thrown in as accents, but a few years ago I did it in my bedroom, and it lasted all of a few nights before I got sick of it one day, and had to go out and replace everything because I couldn't deal with it any more

Re: So confused about decorating & where to start!
you can really do whatever you want...that's the fun part!!!! For me personally, I like to have a theme to my home and I am not a neutral color type of person, I love rich and bold colors--it's definitely not for everyone but I love it and it's my home :) For my new house I picked a style that I love and then worked from that and looked at hundreds of designers rooms and saved photos.....it's fun and I have some ideas of my own to blend into some of the photos I have saved. I pretty much have the first floor figured out except for one area.....I too do like some different types of deocarting style but rather than have several throguhout I weave that "theme" as I like to call it throughout....have fun with it! Good luck!! I have been addicted to either watching or surfung HGTV!!

I think your taste is called "eclectic" Go with it using a similar color palette with vibrant splashes in accessories

Sometimes I think when you have a theme or an expectation of exactly what you want, it makes it very difficult when looking for furniture and decor. It will drive you nuts.
Try just going out looking and put aside your "theme" and just look. See what catches your eye. Most likely you will probably start leaning towards purchasing items that go with one of those themes you like.
Just be open, I found when I had an idea of what I wanted especially in the beginning starting with nothing, it caused me stress because I wasnt finding those items that would go into that idea.

Are you set on any particular colours? That sort of helped me, but I am still decorating.
