READ THIS if you have a dog that pulls on walks!!
I don't know if anyone has posted about headcollars before but I had to share. I have 2 dogs & they both pull a lot on walks. One will sort of stop pulling if I put his collar up high but the other one just lunges constantly. Luckily he is only 12 lbs so it was easy enough to handle. Well, today I took them out together but used headcollars on both of them & it was a DREAM of a walk!!!! I held both of them in one hand & held my 3yr olds hand in the other. We walked for 2 hours with NO problems!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you try this collar! They are not muzzles & they do NOT choke the dog. You don't even have to pull on them. As the dog starts to pull it turns his head & they just stop pulling. The one on my little guy (white dog) is Halti brand & it came with a safety strap that attaches to the regular collar. The other brand is Gentle Leader. I like the Gentle Leader brand a little better because you can adjust the size of the piece around the muzzle.
ETA: I still like the Gentle Leader better but it was nice to have the safety strap on the other one because he actually got it off but because the strap was connected to his regular collar he was still on leash. Image Attachment(s):

We have one of these! We call it a leader leash. It's a zillion times better than the regular collar because Ollie would literally choke herself. She still pulls though but it is much easier to control her.

We have one too. It makes such a difference when we go on walks.

I used the Halti on my parents dog. Within a few weeks it was actually nice to walk her. Too bad they untrained her.
ETA: We used to call her Hanibel when she wore it.

No they can breathe normally while wearing it. My little guy is still adjusting to it because he always likes to just lunge & now he cannot pull because when he tries to his head starts to turn.

If you wanted to still keep the harness on you could use 2 leashes but the harness actually makes it easier for him to pull because then all his body weight is pulling you. With this you attach the leash to a ring that hangs under the chin area & when they try to pull it make their head turn instead so then they just don't bother pulling. WHen they are not pulling the leash just hangs loosely & doesn't pull on his head.

Is this used strickly for training purposes, I was thinking of getting one and then once he is used to it, switching back to his harness. Yay or Nay?

I doubt they are good for Shih Tzu's... since they have such a short snout.

I say YAY. You won't know if you don't try & it might take a little while but I can't see why eventually they wouldn't just get it. I'm hoping for that too
