steam cleaner
Last night, DH knocked over a candle that was lit and it feel onto the carpet in our living room. Luckily, the flame went out before the candle hit the floor but the wick broke into pieces and there are ash stains all over our light beige carpet...this would stick for anyone, but we rent so we need to find a way to get this out. We were thinking of renting a rug doctor or something like that anyway because we have a baby on the way and would like the carpets to be extra clean before our son arrives. So I guess I have two questions, has anyone rented one of these machines before and had great results? and do you think that it would get out these ash stains?

Re: steam cleaner
If it is candle wax on the floor, the best thing to do is to put ice directly on it. Let it get very cold and scrape it up. Use a puddy knife or something like it.

Ash stains can easily be removed with the carpet/fabric cleaning machine. You can rent them in Home Depot.

Re: steam cleaner
With DC on the way, you may want to look into buying a carpet cleaner. I use mine often, and after only a few rentals, you save money by having your own. Plus, it's already in the house, so you can use it immediately when something spills.
This is the one that I have, but mine is 8+ years old and still going strong.
