West Hempstead?
Any of you ladies have the scoop on it?
My friend is buying a house just north of the Southern State...
Any and all info would be appreciated before they sign the contracts!

I honestly only know what i see when i drive through the area. I often drive up Grand Ave, which turns into Baldwin Rd above the SSP in West Hempstead.
I don't know anything about the area other than what i see.. and it's not the best looking area.
Someone was just stabbed there last Sunday morning
There may be other nicer areas, I just know that i wouldn't necessarily buy anything in the areas that i've seen

My ILs live right off the turnpike and it is definitely not a desirable area. DH's Aunt & Uncle live in WH in a much nicer neighborhood although I'm not entirely sure where. Sorry I can't be of much help but if you want to FM me your questions I can ask DH.

that's not W. Hemsptead. That would be S. Hempstead that you're describing

my sister lived in W. Hempstead w/ her inlaws for 5 years ('02-'07), she was on Eagle Avenue by the horse stables, just off SSP exit 18. Not a good area IMO, they rushed to move before their daughter was in school. About two months before moving someone tried to rob my BIL at the gas station on Lakeview Road (I think that's the name of it, right by the LIRR).....they definitely knew it was time to move after that! they moved to Levittown off Gardiners Avenue, they couldn't be happier, the schools are good, they actually KNOW their neighbors, there's lots of shopping, and they don't have to worry about all the seedy neighbors they used to have. HTH! good luck to your friend, it's tough when you fall in love with a house and its just not in the best of areas.

Ends up they did the inspection today and the house has a ton of asbestos so they're walking away anyway.
