Hardened Brown Sugar

I'm making spareribs tonight and the recipe calls for brown sugar. I'm almost positive the one I have will be a ROCK.

I'm seeing on Google you can microwave it with a damp paper towel on top and it'll soften. Has anyone successfully done this? Or should I just pick some up on my way home? I hate wasting.

Completely works...I've done it...I usually put it in a small tupperware container, put the damp paper towels over the sugar, and then the tupperware lid on top (not closed tight though.) Just make sure you don't let it go too long and start cooking the sugar Chat Icon

Re: Hardened Brown Sugar

That's what I thought--that it would melt--but I guess not if I'm careful.

Awesome--thanks!!

For the future, keep a small piece of apple in your brown sugar container, but replace the piece from time to time-your sugar will never go hard on you againChat Icon

Never heard of this -- very cool. Although I know I'd never remember to replace the apple! Chat Icon

The microwave trick totally works. I just make sure that I put the brown sugar in a ziplock bag with as much air squeezed out as possible and my brown sugar stays soft!
