Q about dept of assessment
we just got an acceptance letter for Enhanced Star addressed to the previous owners. obviously, we are not eligible for advanced star bc we are not senior citizens. we did apply for regular star when we closed in Jan. Should I call the dept of assessment? will i get in trouble for opening mail that wasn't really addressed to me? i don't want to have to owe taxes bc of their mistake. help! TIA

You can just return to sender. Since you closed in January, your October tax bill will be adjusted to reflect the correct rate. You won't be eligible for STAR until 2011-2012 school year.
