When to start the IVF process - LONG!
Here's a brief update on what is going on with us:
We just had our 3rd IUI this month and with only 3.5million it doesn't look promising, although I guess you never know.
My DH and I had discussed just starting IVF next, going for all the pre-tests in April, then starting the process in June. (It takes 7 weeks with my RE - first 3 weeks there are some basic tests, 3 day bloodwork, measuring the uterus, etc.)
Here's where things get slightly more complicated. My DH graduates from school at the end of May, and will begin working full-time at his current part-time company in July. He will only have 2 weeks vacation when he begins work full-time.
The problem is that his family is in another country, and he has not been home to visit since August '09. He definitely misses them, but we had looked at plane tickets and the prices are insane right now. We had decided to put off any visit until late Fall when the prices came down. Compounding my DH's homesickness (is that a word?) is that his father has Alzheimer's, and everytime they speak his father seems worse and worse. When they spoke last his father asked my DH how his parents were doing.
Then he spoke to his mother and she said that she wanted to pay for our flights as a graduation present. Lovely gesture, but it makes it so much harder for us to figure out when to begin this process.
So now we are deciding whether to:
1) Start right away. Go in for all the tests as soon as AF shows, then begin the IVF protocol asap.
2) Tests now, process in June. Figure out if I can do all the pre-testing as soon as AF shows, then start the protocol in June, which I guess would put the ER in July.
3) Push everything back until July, with the ER/ET in August.
I am so torn. I am getting anxious to start the process, but I can see the upside to waiting a couple of months too. We just found out that our 'fully covered' IVF will still cost about $2770/cycle, and I could really stand to drop a few pounds too.
Sorry for all this babbling... if you have made it this far I would love to hear your opinions on this. I am really struggling with this, and since we are not sharing anything with our family or friends at this time, this board is the only place I have to discuss these issues!!
TIA!!!!

Would you go visit DH's family if you held off for a month or two?
If you plan on doing something meaningful between now and August, then definitely wait. Otherwise, I would start IVF now.

Yes, if we held off until July, we would definitely go visit his family at the end of May, beginning of June. We would also probably try and schedule a short/cheap break for ourselves too since we haven't been on vacation in over 2 years.

I think it might do you good to get away for awhile and come back refreshed and ready for IVF. I'm worried that if you don't go, you and DH will regret it because then you may not be able to travel for 3-4 months afterwards. And traveling out of the country may not even be feasible for longer.

Go to visit his family & then start. I timed my IVF for vacation... get what you need to out of the way.

This is only my opinion but after my bff went to costa rica and visited her dh's family she came back and was pg the following month. she said the vacation helped her relax and she needed the little break from ttc. Good luck in what you do. The vacation sounds wonderful.
