to put an offer on a home or not.. that is the question
Saw a lovely home, great price where we'd have everything we need and its 50 grand less than what we were looking at originally. Ironically, the listing agent who is selling the home, is her daughters house. And my agent to buy is my mom. So that may be good. House is perfect, turn key and amazing property. Now, the issue: its close to dh's job, and he makes double what I make. It would be a forty min drive for me. No biggie, as I know people commute. Also, my parents watch my son often, and itd be a 40 min from them too. Now, I always think, well, what..you can't buy a home just because its not near them? And not to be morbid, but what if we did buy a home near them and they pass away suddenly or something? (My dad is around 75). What to do? Sorry for any grammar or lack of paragraphs, writing this from the crackberry!

Re: to put an offer on a home or not.. that is the question
I thought the same thing when we first started talking about where we wanted to live. We decided to stay close to our parents even though it's not exactly where we wanted to be. That's a hard decision especially when the house is perfect. I would look at a few more houses closer to them & if there's really nothing else out there & the one you are interested in now is still available then I'd make the offer. Good luck

IMO, 40 min is not bad at all. Go for it.

Is that 40 min during rush hour ? - What would the time be like during off hours? I could make a big difference.

Re: to put an offer on a home or not.. that is the question
IMO 40 minutes isn't terrible. Currently I live 3 miles from my job and DH is about 20 minutes. We bought a house and now I am going to be at least 40-45 minutes from my job and DH will stay about 20 minutes away.
We currently live 10 minutes form my parents and the new house will be about 30 minutes away.
In the grand scheme of things it's not THAT far. If you love the house and it has everything that will work for you as a family I would seriously consider it. You don't want to start regretting the location of such a big purchase. Ya know?

Re: to put an offer on a home or not.. that is the question
Yeah, it's not too far, I agree.
right now, I think the issue is that I am spoiled..it's so easy, as my parents are 5 minutes away. So after work or before work, it's a breeze to pick him up or drop him off.
My parents live in a pricey area, well, not "pricey," but for what I want, I have yet to see anything in my range, and I refuse to pay a ridiculous amount in taxes - I can't bear the thought of paying off my home and then still having to pay like 1,200 a month in taxes, KWIM?
I'm mulling it over in my head.
I also feel a little "homesick" at the idea of living in a new town that I am not really used to, which I am surprised at feeling.
We shall see!

I don't think 40 min is that bad, and finding the right house is not easy, so I say go for it

Re: to put an offer on a home or not.. that is the question
40 minutes isn't terrible but I am going to play devil's advocate a little and say that it can wear on you day after day. I'd also make sure that it really is 40 minutes. I would actually go during the am and pm rush hour to test out the drive. I only say this because after we bought- my ride turned out be a lot longer than I realized it would be due to traffic (it's over an hour). I love my house but the commute is getting to me! If you love the house and can handle the ride- go for it! A new town could turn out to be a great thing!
