Sounds reasonable for training?

A private trainer is going to come to our home once a week for 5 weeks. Her sessions are around an hour. She wants $450. She came highly recommended to us.

DH thinks he can train the dog himself for free...so asked him when he plans to start doing that Chat Icon Our dog is already 8 months old.

I would go to a puppy kindergarten somewhere else. In home training is crazy expensive plus they don't get the socialization they would get at a group class. Around $130 for 6 classes.

umm I'm not sure how much ours was. We used Matthew from Beyond Pet Sitting... I think it was like high 200s , low 300s... Tell DH he'll still have to train the dog, once a week is not a cure!

that sounds "market rate" for private sessions. is your dog a rescue? some trainers give discounts for rescues.

as for going to a group class, i agree if you're looking to learn basic obedience. 8 months is probably too old for a puppy class. they usually are only up to 5 or 6 mos. old.

When I did my puppy class there were dogs up to a year old in there.

Re: Sounds reasonable for training?

my mom took her dog to a class at dr. gurtman's vet office in hauppauge. it was excellent and cheap - i think just 100 bucks per dog for a five or six week class - once a week, for one hour.

the trainer was excellent.

teddy really responded so well.

there's the page - if you click on the link to see pics of the graduates you will see my mom's dog TEDDY in the second round of pictures - little black dog, white markings.

they photo shop in graduate caps on them!!!

really, this facility is the best. i'm so happy - i take my dog there for EVERYTHING!!!!
