Char has to have surgery tomorrow AM!

Vin got home today and she was bleeding. She had a cyst, we had no idea, and it got big and burst. It was infected - smelled awful. I can't believe we didn't realize this, we are so attentive and take such good care of her! I'm so sad.

He took her to the Vet immediately. They cleaned it, drained what they could, gave her antibiotics, and told us to bring her back tomorrow AM first thing to get it removed. She has to go under and everything. Chat Icon

I told them I don't care what they have to do, I want to bring her home that night. I don't want her staying over. She is resting now. She is exhausted from the Vet visit.

Re: Char has to have surgery tomorrow AM!

She is so uncomfortable tonight.

She is tossing and turning, itching at it and I keep telling her to stop. It is really annoying her. I don't know what to do - how can I help her sleep?

I guess I can't. Chat Icon

i know it's already late and you're hopefully all sleeping soundly. i would have suggested bach flower remedy for pets and/or putting a cone on her so she doesn't lick.

i will be thinking of you guys tomorrow. good luck with the surgery Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Char has to have surgery tomorrow AM!

I dropped her off this morning.

She was CRYING and whining when I had to leave her.

I'm waiting for them to call and update me on how she is doing.

Re: Char has to have surgery tomorrow AM!

oh my goodness this is so bad.

we picked her up and she couldn't even walk! we had to carry her into the car and let her lay down and she whined incoherantly the whole way home. poor thing -

then, we got her home and she couldn't jump up on the couch - she is all drugged up still. it seems to take forever for the anesthesia to wear off. we wrapped her in warm blankets that i took out of the dryer b/c she was shivering and she has been OUT LIKE A LIGHT - won't even react if i call her name - since 5:45pm.

even when grandma and grandpa came home she just incoherantly cried from the blankets.

the surgery went fine though and she has five stitches - she needs to have them removed in ten days.

I hope she recovers quickly and that tomorrow is a better day for her (and you). Don't know if this is why she's shaking, but I remember when I had surgery, as the anestheesia (sp) wore off, I felt very cold and was shivering. Maybe it's that? the extra blankets did help me so hopefully it helped Char.

It's so hard to see our little furry ones in pain. Hang in there. You are doing everything you can for her. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Char has to have surgery tomorrow AM!

It sounds totally normal! We usually miss this part of the recovery because they stay at the vets for a while. It's really the same as a person recovering from anesthesia. I'm sure she will make progress today and tomorrow. It took Brinkley three days to get back to his normal behavior after he was neutered!

By the way, if her stitches are in a place she can reach with her mouth, check out the Comfy Cone. They sell them at Petco now. I use them and lend them out to everyone because it's much more comfortable while they're recovering. Chat Icon

Awww! I know how heartbreaking it must be to see her like that.
They are like children- so helpless!

I hope she is feeling better soon- I am sure she will bounce back a lot quicker after the drugs wear off!

Re: Char has to have surgery tomorrow AM!

Thanks everyone.

She is a lot better today.

Although still sleepy she was able to WALK out to go to the bathroom instead of me carrying her!

Then, she was able to eat just a little bit of kibbles with some lean turkey. She drank a lot of water as well.

She seems much better, thankfully.

Thanks for all the support!!

We are very lucky because she NEVER bites at or licks her stitches -- she didn't even TOUCH them when she was fixed. So, that's a plus at least!

i'm so glad to hear that!

keep an eye out for the licking though because she may not lick till it starts healing (and itching)
