4/27 UPDATE: Notice of Assessment Change

We just received a letter in the mail about this.

It shows the following:

Old A/V.........1710
New A/V.......1840
Net Change...130

Reason for change: 1st STY ADD, SHED

Since the town of Brookhaven is closed, can anyone give me some insight on this.

I assume it's regarding the shed in our yard.

I'm just not sure what "old a/v and new a/v" mean.

And how did they know about the shed.

TIA

4/27--update: Finally got in touch with someone at the assessors office. The 1st story addition and shed were done in 2001, 5 yrs before we bought the house. Turns out the last assessment was done in 1986Chat Icon Chat Icon
So now we have a $300+ tax increase.

Just thought I would update incase anyone else in The Town of Brookhaven should receive a letter like this.

Would someone have to report the shed to the town? I'm just curious, since it's been there for about 5 yrs.

Re: Notice of Assessment Change

Sounds like you added something to the first story, and when they went to inspect they saw the shed also.

I'm hoping it's just this and that nobody report a silly little shed to the town.
Although, I have my suspicions.

Nope...we haven't done anything to the house in the almost 6 yrs we're here.

I'm calling tomorrow anyway to see if I can find out. Doubt they will tell me if someone called them, but doesn't hurt to ask.
