after 3 failied IUI

went back to the doc today to find out that I need to do 9 more IUI before GHI will cover me for IVF.

Doc said he is going to do back to back IUI's although he basically told me it doesn't help % wise but he doesn't want me to suffer through 9 more months he figures he can do it in 5.

Has anyone had any success after at least 3 failed IUI's.

Im started my gonal F shot and im up to 675 mgs per day of the shot.

I don't have any experience with IUI. I'm just start my first cycle of fertility treatment and I am on gonal f at 450 iu per day. Due to my elevated FSH, I'm on Day 10 and has only about 4 or 5 follies with sizes ranging from 20 to 14. I don't know if that'll help you but I just want to say good luck!!

I can't believe GHI requires that many IUI's, That's crazy!

That's good that your RE is going to do back to back IUI, to get you through them more quickly. Goodluck!!

just got a call from pharmacy that the meds are no longer covered. GHI only covers three rounds of IUI meds. So now I have to decide what to do. The meds are about 4000 dollars.

What do I do

5 rounds at $4k each is $20k. unless you can get the meds cheaper, imo its not worth the time and money to do all of those iuis. were you ready to move on to ivf before you heard about the coverage changes?

WOW i cant believe they wont cover the meds either. thats insane.

is it possible ur dr gives ur a script for more meds than u would need to use for that month so u can store it for later time ?

GHI sucks I have it too and im wondering if my meds are covered bc i did more than 3 iuis last year.

Speak to your doctor.

Clomid is pretty cheap. Maybe you can do a few cycles with back to back IUIs with Clomid (about $10 a cycle).

i already did 4 months of clomid that didn't work either.

Met with my doc today and he is going to change my medicine. (instead of using gonal-f some other type of shots) not sure which one. Hes trying to work aorund insurance. Not sure if it will work though.

Anyone have any experience with switching medicine and if that would "fly" with insurance purposes

well the pharmacy still wont cover the meds. They said even though its a different name its still the same type of medicine. So now Im waiting for the doc to tell me my next options.

I think hes either going to say pay the 4000 or no meds.

You can apply for the IVF grant through NY state after 4 failed iuis. (at least when I was applying in Nov. that was the way it was). I would call and ask, couldn't hurt. I think that is so absurd what your insurance company is doing they should be ASHAMED of themselves.

if u go decide to pay out of pocket i fi were you i would go for the IVF and apply for the grant. im sure you would be able to get unsused meds from past successful ivf'ers if you needed.
you may even awant to post to see if anyone has any unused gonal-f's.
