Long runs...what do you bring and how do you carry it?

With a half marathon coming up next month, my long runs have been getting pretty long...especially since I'm a turtle Chat Icon Some water or something to give me a little energy would be helpful, but I usually just go out with my ipod and that's it. Those waist pack things look uncomfortable. Chat Icon

I drink a lot of water the night before the run (or in the morning) and bring a roll or two of life savers with me. I can't wear a belt or carry a drink, I find it too uncomfortable.

I just recently bought a water belt. I got used to it pretty quick and its not uncomfortable at all. When the weather starts to get over 70 degrees, you're gonna need water with you on long runs. I also just started using the Jelly Belly Sports beans for energy, so far I really like them. The water belt that I got has a pouch in the front and I keep my keys and the jelly bean packets in there.

I have a fuel belt that I use for 12+ mile runs (15+ in the winter)

for 8-12 I usually just grab a small bottle of powerade and carry it. I have convinced myself that I'm working out my arms by carrying it. Chat Icon

I don't "eat" anything unless it's a 16+ mile run - and I like the sports beans the best - I hate gels.

I don't bring anything either. I feel like it would be a pain to carry. I just drink a large glass of water before I leave and then drink a large glass when I get back.

I am also training for the half on May 2nd and i have gotten so used to carrying a bottle of water with me for my long runs and I have a mini belt from ifitness that that I keep my Jelly Belly Sports beans in and I usually pop them around mile 7. I just take one key and put it in my little pouch as well. I don't even realize I have the belt on. It is so light.

Thanks guys! I was in Target the other day and they had a water belt so I figured I'd try it. I ran around the block and came right home to rip it off! It was so uncomfortable, especially with the weight of the water bottle! I might check out the running shop to see if they have anything that would be better suited for running. I want to try those beans too! When I run during the week I usually have my kids in the jogging stroller so I can carry as much as I want, but on the weekends I go solo...maybe I should start pushing an empty stroller to hold my stuff. go online to runningwarehouse.com

they have so many belts to choose from and if you google them for a coupon code you'll should be able to find one. You can also get the jelly beans from that site too!

yeah - I can't use a waterbottle belt...that's what I like about the fuel belts - 4 10 oz bottles.

another option for gels and beans is to safety pin them to your shirt. I do this in HMs/marathons , b/c you dont' want the belt to weigh you down, and on my long runs.

Re: Long runs...what do you bring and how do you carry it?

Right now most of my outdoor runs are with the jogging stroller. I have everything (including a travel potty) in that thing.

Running by myself I just carry a key. I have to find a way to carry water soon or just make boring perpetual loops past my house.
