Re: barking help
my dog is a barker as well and this is what I have tried
coins inside a coffee can- shake when she barks it sort of startles them to stop but you have to do it everytime shes barking for no reason (my dog didn't care)
petco sells this clicker thing it also makes a sound that is supposed to startle them - this never worked for my dog
spray bottle with water and set it to the stream not spray. this worked the best. I saw an episode of oprah and she had a trainer on doing this. his method was to reward the dog after you spray them when they have stopped barking. he used cooked chicken in small pieces. I got those small training dog treats. I had to discontinue the treat part because my dog would bark close his eyes and wait to get sprayed then he would beg for a treat. so we basically taught him to continue to bark so we will give you a treat it took a while but once we stopped the treats he got the method. now all we have to do is say do you want to get sprayed? or if that doesn't work, we just bring the spray bottle out where he can see it. He usually stops.
We did try a barking colar that let out a high pitched wistle sound. he basically kept barking over it and could care less. the other issue we had with that was, our other dog in the house could hear it and would go nuts because of the sound, yet the dog that was an issue wouldn't stop
