We're moving in 48 hours!!
DH and I are moving from our NYC apt to our new townhouse in NJ on Thursday!! I am so excited and nervous. I've lived in the city for 8 years...but it was time to stop throwing $$ out the window and actually buy a place! BUT, I'm just dreading the amt of time it will take us until we feel settled. Any tips or suggestions for moving in that might make the overwhelmingness and hectic-ness in the beginning a little better?

I'll tell you what we did... Since you guys are moving to a bigger place-- I am not sure if you'll have all the furniture to fill it yet.. We used our LR as our unloading ground.. We were getting all new furniture here, so this was the only room that was technically empty-- everything went here so we could set up the rest of our place clutter free. It's also the biggest room-- so it was easiest to do this. It also made it easier to tell the movers-- just leave all the boxes here.
First and foremost-- get the bathrooms and the bedroom up and running-- then a hang out area-- with chairs and TV. Everything else will fall into place-- but as long as you can have a place to "live in" the rest of it won't be so overwhelming.
Leave a lot of time for the kitchen-- I am sure it will be bigger than the NYC kitcen Plus you'll want to unpack all the unused wedding gifts... You won't be cooking right away-- so make sure you set aside time for this and don't rush it.
That's my advice!! Good luck with the move-- can't wait to see you and Brett in "Jerse"!

Good Luck and congratulations on your new place!
I found that if I tried to unpack a few boxes at a time and really go through them...meaning a good sort...thorw stuff away, and out away ALL the other stuff, it wasnt as overwhelming for me.
Get a nice bottle of champangne, sit back and enjoy your new house with your DH!

As long as your boxes are all organized it shouldn't be THAT bad.
I would probably do the bedroom first and put away all of your clothes because that is the biggest pain of all. After that the rest is cake. Can you get in beforehand to clean everything that way you can just start unpacking?
Don't stress and try to enjoy it -- it will all get done in time.

Thanks Randi! I just mentioned that idea to brett about putting all of the boxes in the LR (because, you're right - we won't have any furniture in there!) and he thought it was a good idea too!

I suggest taking car loads with your clothing still on hangers on over. Also, I agree, bathrooms and living area to relax in should be first priority. Good luck on your new home!
