Any bodybuilders on here?
I am by no means a competitive body builder....at all. At this point I am looking to put on some muscle to achieve a lean, toned muscular look. I lost a lot of weight last year for our wedding and I looked very thin (which was nice) but had hardly any muscle at all. The nutritionist/trainer I worked with to lose the weight has created a plan for me in which I will be gaining weight slowly for about 6 months only to then diet down and lean out.
I started the "bulk" 2 months ago and I am miserable. I feel so uncomfortable, have had to get slightly bigger clothes or go back to my "fat" clothes and I am so dissapointed. Have any of you been there? I really wish I could just go back to being thin but I feel like I need to prove to myself that I cna handle this!
Any advice? Thanks ladies!

honestly, although i understand the theory behind 'bulking up'and then leaning out, i dont see why anyone would have to, especially a woman. is your trainer a man?
to build more muscle, you have to incorporate more protein into your diet. im sure youve started using heavier weights and training harder, and your body is going to need more fuel. dont bulk up just eating more, or eating more bad stuff. eat well.
after your workouts, drink a whey protein shake as soon as you get home, then a well balanced meal about an hour later. dont forget to eat a good meal before your workout too...about an hour or so, whatever wont sit in your belly.
the trick i use is to eat small helthy meals all day and eat about your weight in grams of protein.
good luck!

I wouldn't do anything to my body I wasn't happy with- just to prove I could do it

Thanks for your reply!
The thing is scientifically you need to have a caloric surplus to build any muscle at all. This I understand. Regardless of protein, carbs, fat, you need that surplus. So I understand that my weight is going to go up. I was about 94 pounds at our wedding (I am only 5 ft tall) and looked very lean. I liked that look but realize that 94 lbs is not a realistic weight to live on so i would like to build some muscle so tht when I do lean out I can be defined but not unhealthy thin. I definitely eat am eating clean...nothing bad for me and I am tracking calories and writing everything down...no guessing here. Everything is precise. I am just worried that I will have gained and then it comes time to lose I will still have no muscle lol.
And when I say "bulk" I dont mean 20 lbs or anything like that...its more of a slow gain but of course to me, it feels like I am gigantic! lol

ok, then it sounds realistic. from what youve written, it sounds like your wedding weight was too tiny and its awesome that you are looking to build muscle. weight training is one of the best things for your body. dont worry about 'bulking' then...if you are eating clean and healthy and working out harder on top of that, your body will do what it is supposed to do. and im sure youll be very happy with your results!

Thanks I sure hope so! After a long conversation with DH in which he yelled at me and reminded me that he wants a family, and to grow old with me and that we are a team i decided I hvae to be healthy for the both of us...scaring me a lot to do this, but i'm sure in the end it will be great...hoping i dont go nuts before that
