Anyone have a cat and dog that get along?
Our cat is still a baby - only about 8 months old and we just adopted a puppy last week (she is 4.5 mos old). Any tips for getting these two better acquainted
I never knew our cat could move as quickly as he does, poor thing knows his home has been invaded. Our dog truly looks like she just wants to play.
I thought they would be instant friends

We have three cats and a dog. They are not the best of friends, but they tolerate each other fine. It took a few weeks.

I do! They even sleep together sometimes. My cat was 10 years old, it took him about a year of hissing before he came around.
8 months old, I would think he would adapt pretty quickly. But that is just my guess.

Our cat gets along well with our dogs. They play together too! I love to watch them.
Your cat is still young, hopefully he'll warm up to the puppy

our cat and dog get along great!
my best advice is to let them be and have them figure each other out on their own -- that worked well for our furbabies

when we socialized our kitten with our neighbor's bichon, Sushi didnt take to well at first. The dog was a little bit too hyper for her but after a while (about 6 months or so, they got used to each other).

I have a cat and two dogs. They all love each other. The dgos play more often and spend more time together. However the cat will get in on the fun occassionally and she is constantly cleaning their eyes and ears for them.
I actually have a funny video of my cat play fighting with our first dog when she was a puppy. I swear that my cat taught her how to play like a dog. Beore the cat started doing this, the dog would shy away from the other puppies at the park when they wanted to play.

Re: Anyone have a cat and dog that get along?
any other tips? We know it has only been a little more than a week but our cat is furious. He is being awful 0 hissing and pawing at the dog. We have the dog in the crate too much (in our opinion) because we are nervous they will go after each other around the girls.
any help is greatly appreciated! I had no idea it was going to be THIS bad

Re: Anyone have a cat and dog that get along?
I have two cats and a dog and grew up with two cats and a dog. In my current situation my DH had the cat and I had the dog when we moved in together. The cat dislikes the dog and in the beginning hissed and swatted at him. I think she may have gotten him in the face once or twice and since then he is afraid of her (my dog is an 80lb golden ). Then a few years ago we brought a kitten into the home and the kitten (now a cat) loves my dog and has loved him since day one. The dog likes the cat too and they snuggle with each other.
I say just give them some time. Leave the dog out of the cage when you are home and don't keep the dog and cat away from each other. When you are not home I am assuming you are crate training so the dog will be in the cage anyway. I wouldn't seperate them while home because then you will never get them to become friends or at least tolerate each other.

Re: Anyone have a cat and dog that get along?
I have two dogs and a cat that tolerates them at best! Bella is older, so she doesn't bother much with the cat and we've had them together for about 6 years. When we rescued Uno, I suppose he'd never seen a cat, because he went right after that cat without a moment's hesitation. It took awhile and a couple of swats and bouts of hissing, but now they pretty much just ignore each other-which is fine by me! GL!

Re: Anyone have a cat and dog that get along?
So they have began tolerating each other. There is still a ton of hissing and swatting by our cat but they both napped in the kitchen today. We have been having our dog out if the crate for the majority of the day these last couple of days and it seems to be working.
It really helped to know that these behaviors were normal and that my cat was not just being awful.
Thanks so much!!!
