How can I train my cat not to meow
He is out of control.
He sleeps with us until about 4 or 5 am when he is digging at our feet and running around like a crazy man. Then we kick him out of the room and close our door.
Every single night at exactly 6 he starts meowing. It is loud and it hurts your heart to hear it. He will not stop until you wake up to pet him, turn on the tv, or just wake up.
We have tried squirting him with water but now he is smart and when he hears us coming to open the door he runs and hides. So we end up chasing him around which isnt fun.
We feed him when we wake up at 7 but he is not hungry. Even when we feed him, he doesn't eat the food - he eats later after we leave. He just wants attention.
We have also tried yelling but that is not helping.
Any other ideas?
He is one and half year old male cat if that matters.

Ignore it. He'll get the idea after a few days.

This has been going on for months.
He knows about the squirt bottle so anytime we wake up, he runs.
THen we end up chasing him around the house in the middle of the night.
any other ideas?

Re: How can I train my cat not to meow
This is our cat EVERY morning...even on the weekends.
I just get up put him in the living room & close the bedroom door. He meows for a few minutes, but we ignore him. He eventually stops.
I think its like their witching hour Our cat gets like this around 9:00 pm & between 4:30-5:00am.
He runs around the apartment like a bat out of hel l, scratches at furniture, makes all these weird noises. Nothing we can do really...sometime we'll feed him to calm him down, but he just starts right up again when he's done eating.
