I just sent a gift but
Does this seem a little like gift hunting? My cousin lives in NJ and I am in CA. Her baby shower is on June 17th- obviously when I am still working in my school and I would be unable to attend. But I got an invite anyway.
Is this a blantant attempt to get extra gifts or am I just overreacting?

Re: I just sent a gift but
Were you invited to the wedding? Maybe she felt like you'd be insulted if you weren't - that's a tough one. A friend of mine moved to London, I am not inviting her (obviously she wouldn't be there) but I am inviting a friend who moved to FL b/c I know she would want to be even though she can't come. Not doing it b/c I expect a gift, she just likes to still be part of everything.

Re: I just sent a gift but
When DH and I got married, my mom sent shower invites to all his aunts in Wisconsin. We knew they were not going to come, but to not invite them would have been rude. There was no expectation that any of them would send a gift- it was more a gesture on my mom's part to not exclude his family despite the distance.

I agree with this. For my bridal shower, I have friends and family all over the US and I think they would be insulted if they weren't invited. It definitely was not an attempt to get gifts (and for the most part I didn't get any ) I will have a baby shower invite sent to them as well. I always hope they will be visiting or want to come to town. They came for the wedding.

Re: I just sent a gift but
Thanks guys- this is the type of family where you "wonder" since they know it would be impossible for me to attend. Glad I sent a gift now though- I really am happy for her.

Please don't bug out- my question was more based on the type of people I know they are- for example, my aunt sent a Christmas letter that included EVERYTHING they did that year and they left out my wedding- our only reunion with whole family. And she posted pics from it, leaving out that it was her niece's wedding. So I just thought it strange that I would get a shower invite since obviously I am not that important to them.
