anyone know how to rescue one or adopt one? would rather one that someone can tell me some history about due to the fact that i have two small children. (ex: good with children, or not good with children, or not good wtih cats, etc..)

Re: german shorthaired pointer
I had a neighbor that had one and he had to give him hard exercise every day (he rode a bike for miles while the dog ran beside him) in order to avoid problems brought on by boredom.
Once he was giving the dog the exercise and training he needed, it was a wonderfully behaved dog!
Good luck with your search, they're gorgeous dogs. We considered them and Viszlas but decided they were too much for our lifestyle. I'd love to see the ones you're considering.

GSPs are great dogs but they need so much exercise. They're really great jumpers so if you have a backyard make sure you have a high fence. They do get bored easily.
I would recommend Petfinder.

Re: german shorthaired pointer
This would be the best place to go. The German Shorthaired pointer rescue of America http://www.gspca.org/Rescue/index.html
Every AKC breed club has a rescue group. The rescue group is usualy comprised of the breeders that belong to the club. When they rescue a dog from wherever it may be they take them into their homes and care for them until they can find a suitable home. With that said, any veterinary needs are taken care of as soon as the dog is taken in from rescue. They evaluate the dogs behavior etc.
