Can I ask a question please?
It's for a friend.
Do you have to go to a fertility specialist if you are having trouble getting pregnant on your own?
Whats the first step?
Thanks so much!

Re: Can I ask a question please?
Your dr can check if you are ovulating and check your hubby with a SA-thats the first step...then take from there

Re: Can I ask a question please?
An OB/Gyn can take some steps to determine cause of IF and even provide some treatments. I'm currently under the care of my OB/Gyn and not an RE for our issues. I'm comfortable with the practice and our issues can easily be fixed with meds and an IUI. If we go a few cycles with IUI not working, then I will be moving to an RE.
However, if significant issues are found, your friend has been trying for more than a year, is over 35 years old, or is simply more comfortable in the care of a specialist, she should seek the help of an RE. REs specialize in getting women PG.
Good luck to your friend!

Re: Can I ask a question please?
It depends.
I first did an IF consult with my ob/gyn. With that, I was able to get an Rx for bloodwork (CD 3 bloods) and was able to have DH get an SA and also was able to do an HSG.
When all of those results came back normal, my ob/gyn gave me a referral to an RE.

Re: Can I ask a question please?
i went straight to the RE..
only because my OB didnt take me seriously and i was not happy about that.
so i guess it depends on her situation.

Re: Can I ask a question please?
I think its a mixture bring it up with the obgyn if they don't do further testing or give you the run around I would call and get an appointment with an RE. It won't hurt to get a few opinions anyways.

Re: Can I ask a question please?
My OB ran a blood test first and was going to send me for an HSG and DH for a Semen analysis. The blood test came up with something, so he referred me to the RE.
I think it really depends on your OB though.

Re: Can I ask a question please?
Your OB can do some tests like an SA for DH and an HSG for you. After that, I would suggest going to an RE. Some OBs will start women on fertility meds, but I just think it is a better idea to be monitored by an RE while you are going through that stuff. Just my experience and opinion....

Re: Can I ask a question please?
Thanks ladies! I think she is going to switch her OB. He has been no help at all to her, and maybe try a local specialist.
Thanks again.

Thanks again.
my OB kept brushing my issues off too and kept telling me to call back in "3 months" if i wasnt PG. i finally decided to go to a specialist on my own and wish i had done that sooner.
