Tell me about Levittown!

Hi,

My DH and I are house hunting! I wanted to hear about Levittown b/c I dont know anyone personally to ask.

Basically I know some facts, but no details!

Tell me about the schools: I know Levittown SD is divided into Division and MacArthur, but don't know much about preference. (Also I know some can go to Island Trees)

What area would you prefer more in Levittown? North or South of Hempstead Tpke....what areas are great?

Obviously I know there are NO BAD areas, so all I'm looking for is some tips about location. Feel free to FM if you are afraid of offending anyone :)

-It's hard for me to get a feel just driving around because it all looks great, just wanted some personal tips and opinions

Thanks :)

levittown has both the Levittown SD and Island Trees SD... I believe north of Hempstead Tpke is Island Trees. Island Trees tends to be lower in taxes from what i've seen, I hear its because of the industries on Hempstead Tpke.... Both SD's are supposed to be good but as far as what i've heard, the schools that are zoned to MacArthur HS are supposed to be a bit better than those to Division.. again this is just based on what i heard but perhaps some other people who grew up in this area can have some better insight... good luck in your search!

Re: Tell me about Levittown!

Danielle and I have lived in Levittown for the past 5 years and we love it. In fact we are in the process of Dormering our home. We live South of Hempstead Turnpike. We are zoned for Abbey elemantary, Jonas Salk and Mac Arthur schools.

The people in Levittown are like no other....Our neighbors are all really nice people that go out of their way to help you if need be. I do the same for them.

Right now there is one house for sale on my block. It is a 4 bedroom 2 bathroom that was redone 3 years ago and is now a foreclosure. It needs some cosmetic work but its $280k.

There are a lot of affordable homes in Levittown....

thanks for more info! Yes we've noticed many houses have been recently remodeled and are quite affordable which is great. -I feel it would allow us to save quickly to throw in a pool which we both really would like for our house.

I grew up in Levittown (zoned for East Broadway, Salk, and MacArthur). I loved growing up there. My block always had a real sense of community, which I loved!

Re: Tell me about Levittown!

We looked at a number of homes in Levittown, and like the area a lot. It's got that cute, small-town feel to it even though it's comparatively pretty big. Levittown has two good SDs: Island Trees and Levittown. IMO Salk/MacArthur are the most desirable schools, and the houses zoned for them are south of Hempstead Tpke. Lots of nearby shopping, restaurants, etc. No train station - you'd take the train out of Wantagh or Hicksville. The only drawback that I saw was the house styles were limited. If you're interested in buying something that's not a cape, you're going to have to hunt for it.

Good luck!!

We're also in Levittown, south of hempstead tpk, off Gardiners Ave. We really love it. Our neighbors are great!

We did some house hunting in the Island Trees section, but nothing caught our eye enough to buy.

Good luck!

Re: Tell me about Levittown!

Rachel,
Actually there are capes with no basements, ranches with no basements, Omega capes which are in the area across from Rite Aid and behind the New HSBC bank, and Miller Capes. The miller capes have basements. The Omega cape has a different layout than the standard levitt cape. When you walk into the Omega cape, you walk into the living room to the right and there is a wall to the left. The kitchen is in the back of the house behind the living room.

Re: Tell me about Levittown!

My DH and I bought our house 3 years ago. and it was the best move we could have made! i just LOVE living here!
my DH also grew up in levittown too, we have alot of friends and family that live here as well.

we have the basic cape, and are dormering too in the next month or so. whats so great about these houses is the potential to expand!!

the community is excellent too, i can't say enough about the neighbors and the quiet streets. all the pools in the town too are awesome!

we live in the Abbey Lane/Division section... i love it!

good luck with your search!!

Re: Tell me about Levittown!

We moved to Levittown 2 1/2 years ago. We are South of HTP right off Knoll by Fred's deli and zoned for Gardners elem/Salk MacArthur. We love it there. My DH grew up in Levittown right by the Library. Our block alone has 4 famiilies with kids the same age as DS. We have BBQ and parties all the time. It was the best move we could of made!! Love it there!!
