Do you have experience?

Personally...I have never changed a baby...given them a bath, fed them a bottle...nothing. This will be a first for everything.

I do have a neice and nephew...but I never was alone with them...if my mom was babysitting, I was there, but she would do all these things.

Anyone else? I'm worried Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Do you have experience?

I have two younger brothers, but now they are older, so it's been about 15 years since I took care of a baby. My friend has kids and I would help her sometimes, but didn't really go alone with them.

Re: Do you have experience?

I am terrified. The last time I changed a diaper was 1980 when I was 4 years old and my brother was an infant!!!

everyone has been telling me it comes naturally, I hope they are right!

Re: Do you have experience?

JT and I have tons of experience with babies. He even helped raise his niece when she was born, however, I have friends who've had NO experience and they did just fine. I'm sure there's plenty I don't have a clue about anyway.

Re: Do you have experience?

i'll be the first to admit i don't know squat about taking care of a baby. I've never changed a diaper in my life. But I did go to a infant care class this week and they reassured us that we will be educated the intire hospital stay by the nurses and LC.

Don't feel bad, I have none and I'm having two. Chat Icon Like most of the girls said, I haven't changed a diaper since I babysat 15 years ago. Oddly enough I'm not nervous at all. I'll take some parenting classes and I hope to go over to pinky's house and help her out (it's my alterior motive to get some experience - and help out a friend. Chat Icon)

Re: Do you have experience?

We didn't have any experience, and DH's work schedule prevented him from taking a parenting class. I bought an infant sized doll from TRU and we practiced on that before she was born. Chat Icon Not exactly the same, but it helped.

Re: Do you have experience?

I had ZERO experience. Never even touched a baby before Alex was born. I was terrified! What might help is taking a baby care class with DH - I took one through the hospital and it definitely helped.

Re: Do you have experience?

One of my girlfriends who has 4 young children told me that noone is born an experienced mother.

All I've heard is that it's a job where you learn as you go. All my friends and family with kids have told me to call them with any questions.

Re: Do you have experience?

I was so worried about the basics also - my daughter was the first grandchild in the family - so we weren't surrounded by many kids before then and the last diaper I changed was about 10 years ago - and that was my baby cousin's.

I didn't take any parenting class etc.... - just read the book "What to Expect When your expecting" and "What to Expect the first year" and let me tell you its all i needed. The instincts kicked in the moment she was born - it was amazing and felt so natural to hold her, comfort her, change her etc.....

I know the same will happen for you..good luckChat Icon

I had zero experience with babies before Alex. Even though my friends had babies, they did so in their early 20s and I was out having a grand ole time. Don't worry too much everything comes in time and you and your baby learn together. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Do you have experience?

Neither of us has any experience, so it's intimidating, but we're excited to learn and we'll figure it out as I'm sure you will too!

Don't be worried. I never held an infant until I held my daughter. Much of it will come naturally to you and any questions that you have the nurses in the hospital can and will also help you with!
