Decorating Savvy... please come in! How would you furnish this room?

My living room is big...375 sq ft.

After almost 5 years, I'm finally getting my living room furnished. We just had the floors done.

Mostly furniture placement, it's a large room. What kind of sofa would you do? I was thinking of a large Sectional in the middle of the room, and nice plush wing chairs on either side of the fireplace each with an ottoman. I don't know about the back walls though on either side of the entryway.

this is the view from the entryway of my house:

I think it's roughly 27x14 (give or take a couple)

Time consuming but worth it - plan it out on floorplanner.com.

Look up couches, tables, ottomans, wing chairs, etc. that you like (raymour, ashley, jcp, etc), get the dimensions, and place them in the room.

I don't know if I would do a sectional, I would probably get a reclining love seat and sofa and accent chair and put a TV above the fireplace and make the fireplace the main focus of the room.

Thats if you don't have a TV in another room and it's not being used as formal

Are you planning on having a tv in the room? and if so, are you going to put it above the fireplace or on either side? Our new living room is similar in size and shape and the tv dictated where were put everything else. We're having it to the left of the fireplace on a stand with a couch facing it and two wing chairs under the window.

We may eventually put a leather chair and ottoman in the back left behind the couch to make it a reading area with a nice stand up lamp and possibly a book shelf.

BTW: your floor is gorgeous!

No TV in this room, this is our formal living room.

A sectional has no place in a formal living room. JMHO.

The wingbacks are a good start though. I would go with a traditional sofa.

Or two sofas facing each other perpendicular to the fireplace and two club chairs with their backs to the entry area. Check out Candace Olsen's designs. She does some classic designing that I think would look great in that room

I can't see your pics from work, but here are some pics for inspiration from the description you have given. I'll look at the pictures from home when I can.

And I agree with other posters, I don't think a sectional works in a formal LR. Sofa's and chairs of some sort would work best.

Every one of these pics might not fit your style or the room the right way, since I can't see the pics right now, but I hope they will give you an idea for your room. What color our your floors now?
