Need a grroomer for my Shih Tzu -
My Shih Tzu is two years old and he absolutely HATES going to the groomer. We have been to various PETCO locations in Suffolk County and they all have the same complaint. He is very uncooperative and gets very agressive whenever they try to trim his face. the last groomer took 3 hours to get him groomed and many times it took two workers to do it.
I am at my wits end. Please Help!!

I don't have a recommendation for you since I live OOS but I had to smirk when I read this post since I have the same problem with my Shih Tzu. 6 groomers later and we finally found THE ONE!!

Re: Need a grroomer for my Shih Tzu -
@Kimberly Yes it has been tough. We have an appointment with another groomer this weekend. I am hoping this is "THE ONE". One of the groomers recommended that I get him neutered. She thought that might calm him down but then another groomer said that may not fix the problem.
And the sad part is that he is such a sweetheart. He is normally a mellow dog. He doesn't bark much - all he wants is a nice belly rub and to play.
When my husband and I tried to groom him ourselves, we didn't have any problems with him being agressive with us. He let me trim his face but my husband had to hold him because my dog kept moving his face so he could look at the scissors.
We were able to cut his hair but obviously we are not professionals so I don't exactly like how he looks.

You just described my Sadler. He is a total sweetheart of a dog and when my dad I and tried grooming him ourselves we didn't have any issues besides the final outcome. It's led me to wonder what exactly happens once I drop them off KWIM?
One groomer actually suggested I try working with him by holding a pencil in front of his eyes so he would get used to having objects near his face. According to her I wasnt trying hard enough b.c he was still having issues. I took him elsewhere but, before I did that I called the next groomer and explained to them the situation and they all offered to give it a shot but, the outcome looked like I did it myself so I just kept trying. Don't worry you will find a good match. Sadler still doesnt like going and if I mention the name Vonnie to him he starts shaking! My other Shih Tzu has no problem being groomed. Go figure! Good Luck and don't give up!!

I use Cozy Pet in Babylon Village. I only use James for my two Shih tzu's. I have been going there for years.

she may need to be given a sedative.
my dog was aggressive at the groomer to the point he would get stressed out as well. we would have to give him a sedative before he went and he had to be muzzled, but it was the only way

One groomer recommended that too but I don't know about giving him something to sedate him Is that going to affect his health at all? I take him to the groomer every 4-6 weeks.
