Re: does anyone go to curves?
I used to do it... It's good for if you're just getting into the fitness game I guess.
There are no trainers, per se - your first day someone will show you how to use the machines. It's a big room with a circle of machines and in between each machine is a mat where you jog in place or whatever to keep your heart rate up.
It's resistance training, so what you put into it is what you'll get out of it.
I did it for about a year and saw some great results. But it got boring for me very, very quickly. You have to listen to the music they pipe in so you can hear the prompts to switch machines and it's the same exact thing every time. Also, not sure if this has changed or not, but the hours were extremely limited.
ETA: The people that worked there were very encouraging and they chart your progress monthly (weigh-ins, measurements).

Re: does anyone go to curves?
I had gone 2 years ago to get in shape for my wedding and I loved it!
I saw results quickly!
There is no need for a trainer because you are working on a circut however, there is always atleasy one staff member there to spot everyone and give feedback. They also have a program where you swipe a card at each machine you use and, at the end of the workout, you get a personalized summary of your workout (calories burned, which machines you are using to the max and which ones you need to work harder at, etc...)
I don't remember pricing however, they do accept some health insurance.

Its great because you get a complete workout without having to put a lot of thought in it. They will show her what to do. A few years ago it was 29 or 39 a month.

Re: does anyone go to curves?
I used to go & I found although I didn't lose much weight, I toned up a lot because of the resistance work. I liked the simplicity of it, just being able to go from one machine to the next.
Down sides included that they close really early, like noon on Saturdays & closed all day Sundays, and closed at 8 pm during the week. It was also limiting & gets boring after a while.
I switched to a regular gym so I could get more cardio. But I've gotten lazy with strength work. So it's like I traded one for the other. I like my gym & don't have plans to go back to Curves, but it really did serve its purpose at the time.
