What are the cons about East Northport? Are there any bad areas?
I am looking to get into contract on a house in East Northport. The area of the house looks ok, but I was I wondering if it could be a "bad" area (a relative has made me a little paranoid about that). Are there any other bad things about East Northport that I should be aware of?

Re: What are the cons about East Northport? Are there any bad areas?
bad areas.....no not really.....bad houses....yup. I havent lived there in 5 years but there was one street off elwood that had a house where the tenants had a fire because of drugs and also there was a shooting.
These are really just isolated incidents. I grew up in Northport and you would hear of isolated incidents but they are few and far between but overall great area and great schools.
FM me if you want any more info.....all my friends still live there

Larkfield can be very congested on weekends.
You are not close to major highways.
I used to live in East Northport. I liked it.

Re: What are the cons about East Northport? Are there any bad areas?
I grew up there and I cannot think of a bad area either. Like others said, there is some congestion on Larkfield as well as Elwood Road. Some of the houses can be right near the train tracks, so I would avoid that. I like the areas that boarder on the VA property the best because its very quiet and isolated.
I have noticed a lot of my friends who still live there joining a group on FB that is opposed to a low/middle income housing development going up soon on the corner of Elwood Road near the high school. A lot of people seem bothered by it and think that it will decrease property values.
HTH.

They have been talking about this for at least 10-15 years now. I wonder if it finally got the go ahead?
I agree with PPs...no real bad areas of E Npt (with exception to traffic)...but bad houses.

From what I can gather from the FB group, the lawsuits were finally decided and they're expected to finally move forward with that development. Hence the FB group. In my view, the area needs affordable housing so I think its a good thing, but this issue appears to be a hot button issue in East Northport.

There is a protest to stop the housing project this Saturday, March 13th, from 11-12 at the site (Pulaski & Elwood).

Re: What are the cons about East Northport? Are there any bad areas?
The thought of the low income housing being built is extremely upsetting to me. I've lived in this town my entire life. Have my own home here now and I am raising my daughter here. For years this projected has been a battle for the peopls of the town - and it sickens me to know that they are one step closer to building.

I originally thought longer too - that I remember it being talked about when i was in HS (88-92), but I couldn't imagine that it was going on that long and that I must have been wrong with the dates!

Re: What are the cons about East Northport? Are there any bad areas?
I just moved to East Northport and I love it. My inlaws live here and theres not a bad part I can think of. My block has a couple of homes that arent kept up the best but i think its because they have older people living in them, the other homes are very well kept. I live off of Elood just a few blocks from Pulaski and if that housing project goes through i will be very upset!!!

I was on the other side of Stony Hollow (HF), but I'm sure our paths crossed in Npt Village at the movie theatre and Juniors...
I can't believe after all this time that it is still being pushed through!
and I thought Greenlawn held out a long time (2 years) when CVS wanted to come in - just goes to show you that the people almost always lose :(
