Question about IVF....

Do you girls know if there are any short term or long term medical side effects of doing IVF? I mean, having all that hormonal injection can't be good for us......I'm just curious to know if intrusive procedures have any other medical side effects or problems?

There are no medical side effect...at least there should not be....

The only big side effect of doing IVF could be Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) which is a complication occasionally seen in women who take certain fertility medicines that stimulate egg production. OHSS affects up to 10% of women who go through in vitro fertilization. In most cases the condition is mild, but some women get a severe and dangerous form of OHSS.

the other mild side effect you might experience is weight gain from the hormones (I didn't gain and did 4 cycles), everyone is different...I know many women that had done 7-10 cycles and are perfectly healthy...look at Celine Dion...she is at cycle #6...

Once you get AF assuming you are not pregnant, your hormones regulate and go down, back to normal....so the high E2 & FSH that you have during an IVF cycle, go down...

Phew! Thanks for the information. As you can tell that I'm new at this. I have my orientation next week, but I just keep on coming up with all these questions. Thank goodness for this forum!
