If you have been to Punta Cana...
was there anything food or drink related that you stayed away from?
DH and I are going to Excellence in April, and I have read some reviews about the DR in general about people getting sick.
Did anyone get sick? Did you stay away from drinks with ice or frozen drinks? salads, etc?

I stayed at Excellence for our HM in 2007. You're going to love it. Def stay away from the water - brush your teeth with bottled water and drink only bottled water. I did have drinks with ice, frozen drinks, and salads while there.

I didn't stay at that resport, but went with some friends to another resort (a while ago so I can't remember)
Water is beautiful!
Food is ok. I got sick by the end. Drink the bottled water. Was fine when I got back and it was nothing major. Just take a lot of Pepto, Mylanta, etc.

We stayed here in 2008 and I agree with what was written above.
BTW....you're going to love it!

We just went there in July and stayed at Excellance. We did not avoid anything, food was great. I did use bottled water to brush my teeth, just because I am neurotic, but all the water is filtered that they use for drinks, ice, etc..
You are going to love it!!!!

We went to Excellence in Punta Cana during the summer of 2007 and I don't know what I ate/drank but I got so sick for a day (throwing up and everything). Just be careful.

Loved Excellence! No problems while we were there. Brushed with tap water and was fine. Drank bottled water only, though. Didn't go near the fruit they used as drink garnishes, though.

Went to Punta Cana -- and stayed at Iberostar Bavarao -- and had no stomach issues whatsoever.
We ate everything -- and drank everything. Never bothered with brushing my teeth with bottled water....just used tap. As well as drank frozen drinks with ice and what not, and never had any problems.

The only think I was cautious about was drinking water. I only drank bottled water. But I did brush my teeth with the tap water. I had minor stomach problems but that always happens to me when I travel so it may or may not be related.
I just want to say I love the DR!!!!!

We JUST got home from Excellence this past weekend...It was great...I did get a tiny bit of a stomach thing, but nothing horrible...So I would just stick to the bottled water (at first I forgot, and at some of the meals I drank the water they brought over...I don't know if this had anything to do with it, but, go with the bottles)
Like other posters said, you'll love it!

I've been to Punta Cana many times and have never gotten sick.
Usually when someone gets stomach problems, it is because they are eating and drinking out of their normal routine. Too much coconut milk can give you the runs, so limit the pina coladas and coco locos.
Enjoy Excellence. I was there when it was still Secrets and we had a blast.
