1st week of WW- really discouraged

So I have been successful in the past with WW, so I started last week on my own. I followed all of the points, I barely used any "bonus points", etc. I changed everything. I started cooking for lunch and dinner.

I guess it should have been a sign when i felt like "wow, I am eating so much great food, this doesn't feel like a diet" but I was always right on my points target.

I was a little discouraged all week because I know some people lose 5lbs the first week and I knew I wasn't at that rate, but I thought I might lose 1.5-2lbs.

I got on the scale this morning and I am down .4, which is really nothing..it's a fluctuation..earlier in the week I was down .8.

I've been injured and not very active. I also just think my body doesn't need as much food as other people do. Being a big eater is not what got me 228lbs, and now, thankfully 215, because I kept off the weight I lost last time.

Do you think I should drop myself down to a lower points allowance? What can I look at to make sure I'm on track?

I plan to join and start going to meetings on Saturday. I think that will help.

TIA!

Re: 1st week of WW- really discouraged

I would hold off on dropping down the points right away. I know for me it takes at least a week for my body to adjust to any "life" change whether it be food or exercise related.

WW works for me when I can REALLY stick with it. Which is about 2 days then I get caught up in "life" and fall off the wagon. I have given up on WW mainly because I am lazy and can't be bothered keeping such a diligent food diary which is the only time I am successful with WW. Here is what I have done:

I eat Special K for breakfast every morning. I even measure out my serving.

I eat at least 1 special k bar for a snack at some point in the day.

I have replaced lunch with a Green Giant boxed vegetable. My favorite is the healthy weight.

And dinner I eat whatever I make for the family, but I usually cut my portion in half.

We have zero junk food in the house. At night, when DH comes home and eats dinner (he gets home around 9pm) I find myself wanting to munch. I bought these Breyers Fruit Bars that are only 40 calories per bar and are DELICIOUS. So I eat one. Here is a pic:

And, lastly I have been hitting the gym 4 times a week. Mostly do elliptical for 40 minutes. When I started 6 weeks ago it was all I could do to get 10 minutes on there.

So far, I am down 11 pounds. I still have like 40 to go but I am happy with my progress.

I change my "diet" weekly so my body doesn't get too used to it. So next week for lunch I will have a small serving of grilled chicken instead of veggies. Then the week after I plan to change my lunch to egg whites, and soon after go back to veggies, KWIM?

I have 1 cup of coffee in the morning to get me going. And then I will only drink water the rest of the day. I am also going to try drinking 1 cup of green tea at night after Ryan goes to bed. I have heard green tea aides in weight loss, but I do not have any personal experience yet. No soda for me.

I also want to mention, with WW water drinking and taking a multivitamin are major musts.

Also, try to make sure you are eating your full 5 servings of fruit/veggies.

Thanks for the advice!

I just started taking a multivitamin again today. I drank a decent amount of water, but not a ton.

I think I am definitely eating better. Maybe my body is just holding on to the weight. I'll give it some more time.

Re: 1st week of WW- really discouraged

a couple of tips:

1. DO USE YOUR ALL YOUR POINTS!!! Don't skimp out. Seriously, don't
2. Stop weighing yourself mid-week. It will make you nuts
3. Water, Water, Water.
4. Are you getting enough protein? I find I do better when I have a diet enriched with protein over a batch of 1-2pts "snacks" and such

Sometimes it takes a week or two for your success to show up! Don't be discourged. I'm sure by next week you'll see your hard work reflected in the number on the scale.

Yep. have been eating right out of the WW cookbooks all week.

I am going to try to drink more water, and to be more dilligent about keeping a food journal. I've been keeping it in my head each day, but maybe seeing it in person will help me see where I can improve.

I will also try to add protein though I did actually eat fish 2x last week, which i never do. But since I've been eating the WW studff I have NOT been eating my usual soy "meat", so maybe I am missing out on protein. I decided I am going to make veggie tacos tomorrow with veggie "meat" which is a usual favorite of mine, but jsut be sure to measure everything and use the low fat cheese, etc.

Thank you for the encouragement, I really need it.

I am in between 2 wedding gown right now..long story..but the one I have, if I lose enough weight I can exhange it for a size down in the next few months, and the one I have a small depoit on but have no ordered, I have until August and my goal in either case would be to not have to order a plus size. I'm at a street 18-20 right now, so I'd have to get down to a 14-16, but I think that's reasonable. I also just really want to be fit and healthy. Gotta keep my eyes on the prize!

Re: 1st week of WW- really discouraged

I think you will see more progress once you go to the meetings and join officially.

I also know that the loss fluctuates throughout the program. You might see a small lost this week but next week it will register.

I know I had a not so great week a few weeks ago and ended up losing 5+ pounds. It MUST have been carry over from the week before and just caught up with me. I'm sure it's the same for you.

Just keep doing what you are doing-you will see it!

Are you getting in your milks? My leader told us the milk helps in the weight loss. I have had weeks were I lost .8 , and then the following week, I lost 4.2 lbs. I just started 5 weeks ago, and find the meetings to be very helpful. Take it one day at a time. Do not get discouraged.

You also may want to be aware of your salt intake. The WW program really is good, but I have found it works best when I combine it with exercise.

Also for me, packaged anything is a big NO. I have been overweight my entire life, dieting since childhood and at this point my body really resits weight loss.

I find I do best when I combine whole foods (focusing on lean meats, veggies, fruits and limited whole grains), lots of water, low salt and exercise.

I would stay away from WW packaged foods, if you look at labels they are filled with crapola and are pretty unhealthy.

I think if your start journaling you will see a difference. I tried keeping track in my head for 2 weeks and those were the weeks that I either gained or only lost .2. Writing it down really puts you in control and will help you figure out what is working and what is not.

Good Luck
