How important is Tummy Time?
My DD is 15 weeks tomorrow and HATES tummy time on her mat, she will not last more than a minute before she starts crying and she is so distressed I have to pick her up. I have tried lying her on the boppy pillow to see if that helps and its better than the mat but not much....
She does get tummy time when she falls asleep on me but I guess she is not exercising her neck muscles then...
I do sit her up while supporting her and she moves her head around.
She does have good control of her head - not floppy like when she was a baby, but I wouldnt say she can keep it steady all the time.
Any advice as to when her head should be steady and do I really need to persevere with tummy time even though she hates it.
BTW her last doctors visit was for her 2 mths shots and they just asked if she was able to lift her head up..she didnt examine her to see who well she could do it....
Thanks everyone.

Re: How important is Tummy Time?
Extremely important. Get down on the floor with her if that will help. If you're going to the GTG on Saturday, I'm bringing a book for anyone to look through.

Re: How important is Tummy Time?
Hayley always hated tummy time too. Even if it was for a minute, we did it. We also used the boppy. It wasn't til she was 5 months that she started enjoying it. Now she is 8 months and she loves it. Just keep doing and and eventually she will get used to it.

Re: How important is Tummy Time?
I agree. Sarah hated it too, so I wouldn't do it that much and she developed a slight flat spot on the back of her head. It's rounding out and barely noticable, but I feel horrible about it.
After the doctor pointed it out to me, I would do several sessions a day for as long as she would tolerate. Sometimes it was 1 mintue, sometimes as much as 5. Once she started rolling you couldn't keep her off her belly for some weird reason.

Re: How important is Tummy Time?
I think all babies hate it in the beginning. I don't think Alex liked tummy time until he was about 4.5 - 5 months old. It is very important for them. If you can do it for a minute a few times a day that is good.

Re: How important is Tummy Time?
Emily hated it also for a while and we would put the boppy under her or the smaller pillow that came with our tummy time mat to support her a little and she liked htat more. Also when she was really little (6-10 weeks) I would give her tummy time on my bed while I sat on the floor right under her next to the bed so that we were completely at eye level and she liked that better.
Good luck and keep trying no matter what because it is so important.
