New Hyde Park neighborhood/areas
Hey can someone give me a quick rundown of New Hyde Park? What areas are considered nicer? Is there a difference between the north streets and south streets? Any areas to avoid?
There are four elementary schools...are any better than the others? I understand NHP feeds into a few difference high schools. Any preferences?
Thanks so much! Trying to get the feel of a town without knowing much about it is hard!

There are parts of New Hyde Park that use the NHP school district and parts that use the Herricks School district.
Depending on the district you prefer, there are more desireable areas than others but all in all it is a nice place to live.

There's also a very small portion that goes to the Great Neck schools.

Re: New Hyde Park neighborhood/areas
we just moved to NHP last year & we love it. we are in SD 5/NHP SD. right now we don't have kids. but heard great things about it.
its convenient location. i commute to manhattan so its about a 35 minute train ride. convenient to major highways.
we have great neighbors. they are about in late 20s to late 40s. we were invited to 3 barbeques after just moving in.
we live in the incorporated village of NHP. we pay little more in taxes for that. however, we are saw our money at work during the storm last week. i saw plows coming down the block all day. also there is no parking on the street from 12:00AM - 5:00 AM. even though it may sound like an inconvenience it also lowered our insurance.
if you have any questions about the area, feel free to send me an FM

NHP is nice and close to the city, I grew up a few towns east of NHP. NHP has changed in the recent years.

I grew up in NHP..went to Manor Oaks Elementary school & NHP Memorial HS...in the last few years the only thing i noticed is people tearing down the cute capes & building ugly stucco McMansions that don't suit the neighborhood...the demographics have changed a bit, making it more diversified than we had growing up, but nothing i see as negative. My parents and some friends still live there...i think it's still a great family oriented town.
