Thinking of another cat
I have an 8 year old male cat. Thinking of getting another cat. Would a male or female be better? My current cat is very easy going.

Re: Thinking of another cat
Go for a female as I have heard they get along better when they are opposite sex... Just make sure the female you get is easy going as well and not too skittish.

Re: Thinking of another cat
You can get both, but a female would be better. You can't put two females together. I have a male and female and they are the best of friends. However they are much closer in age.
In the past I have gotten a male with an older male and they got along well also. My sister has three males and one female and they get along ok.
I personally prefer a male cat personality. Don't get me wrong I love both my cats, but from my experience males are more playful. I've had a lot of cats!
Good luck! The age difference will be more of a problem than the sex.

Re: Thinking of another cat
I am currently trying to find my cat a home if you are interested. He is about 3yr old and gets along great with my other cat and dog. He is shy, takes him a little time to come out of his shell, but when he does hes just adorable.
I am so sad to have to get rid of my cats I have been sick for a while only to find out that after 27 years I have developed allergies to my cats. I cant take allergy medicine because I am actually allergic to some kinds and the other ones do not work well or make me so drowsy. I live in a tiny condo so we can no longer live together anymore, I am sick 24-7.
FM me if interested. Or if you know anyone that might be. I am trying my hardest to find them a home (been trying for a year now) and not take them to a shelter.. that breaks my heart.

Re: Thinking of another cat
Males tend to be a lot calmer than females in what I have seen. (There are exceptions of course!)
They always say to get the opposite sex but I think if your male cat is pretty calm and you can find an equally laid back male they would get along fine.
Good luck!

I have 2 females and a male, and they all get along fine. If they are fixed, the sex doesn't really matter.
