Provence vs St. Tropez?
Has anyone been to either of these? We're going on a cruise for our hm in July, and the cruise stops at Provence, but there's a shore excursion we could take to St. Tropez. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Re: Provence vs St. Tropez?
I used to live in Aix-en-Provence!
Just to clarify... Provence is actually a province of France (sort of like the states in the U.S.). St. Tropez is a city in the Cote d'Azur. Where in Provence does the cruise port?
Is St. Tropez the only excursion offered? If so, I would go! It's beautiful there! Do they have any other places?

We honeymooned in St. Tropez and were unimpressed.

Re: Provence vs St. Tropez?
St Tropez is a "little" ritzy town/port on the French Riviera. Mostly famous because of Brigitte Bardot.
Provence is not a town that I know of. Like PP said it might be Aix en Provence. That's a really cute town. Rich people live there. So in St Tropez but not quite the same feeling.
Provence is a "region" of France.

Toulon is the town in Provence that your ship will be in port. I've been to most of the places offered for excursions so I will give you some things to think about!
Marseille: An old city famous for it's fishing community and seafood but not tops on my list compared with your other choices. We were told to stay away from Marseille when I studied in France because I don't think it's the safest city.
Cassis: ADORABLE and quaint fishing village. You will probably visit the Calanques which are gorgeous white rock formations on the water with really neat hidden beaches and crystal clear water. Cassis is one of my favorite places. Go on Google Images and search for photos of the Calanques. Simply beautiful!!!
Aix and Cezanne: Aix is the city I lived in and I love it there! It is a university town with beautiful tree-lined avenues famous for it's outdoor cafes. Cezanne was an impressionist artist who lived outside of Aix. There are medallions thoughout the town that mark the places he would frequent. You will also probably visit his atelier. If you're not an art enthusiast you might want to skip this excursion because the Cezanne stuff can get a little old.
St. Tropez is a wealthy Mediterranean town but unless you're going to the beach for the day while you're there I can't really imagine what you would do besides shop and walk around.
I'm not too familiar with the other excursions but my vote is definitely for either Cassis or Aix!
FM me if you have any other questions! Bonne chance!
