Questions about Ovidrel Trigger **UPDATE WITH NEW ?**

OK so I went to Dr. B’s yesterday morning and I have two mature follies on the left side and one growing on the right. The one on the right may not make it but that’s FINE with me since two are mature already. I can’t believe it!!
I did one more follistim shot last night to mature the eggies a bit more (they were 19mm and 18mm yesterday morning). Tonight I will do the ovidrel trigger (my first time getting mature eggs to trigger!!).

I can’t help but feel overly positive about this because the stars seem to finally be aligning for me. It just so happens that because I am changing jobs at the end of the month, I actually don’t have to work this weekend. This is the first Valentine’s Day weekend I haven’t had to work in over SIX YEARS!! And of course it’s Valentine’s Day, so it’s the perfect opportunity to knock boots anyway!!!

OK sorry for blabbering – onto my questions. Since I have never done ovidrel before what should I expect as far as side effects?
I am doing timed intercourse – not IUI’s. If I BD tonight before the trigger, and Saturday and Sunday and Monday mornings, will I have covered my bases?? How long generally after the trigger will I O? I’m not going back to the RE again until a beta so is there a way to confirm O? I temp but I am starting progesterone supps on Monday too and I think that might skew the temps to look like I Oed. I’m assuming I will feel it happen, esp. cause theres two eggies, but I’m just wondering what other people’s experiences are.

I know I can test out the trigger on HPTs, which I plan to do because I am supposed to schedule a beta for 2/26 but because I am changing jobs I won’t have insurance coverage for that week. So I am going to try to test it out, then wait until I either get a real BFP or AF or BFN but no AF….. I know it’s a tricky thing but if I get a BFP I will def just go in and do a beta and pay for it out of pocket. Otherwise I will try to wait for AF and not waste the money.

**New Questions**
I decided to take an OPK just on a whim. I figured i'd have a surge or close to it from the trigger. But the OPK was STARK white. I have high LH as a symptom of PCOS so I really have never seen an OPK that white before...Chat Icon Chat Icon is that weird?? Does the HCG trigger cause an LH surge - or does it bypass the need for LH altogether?? Either way its soo weird to see cause I get +OPKs all the time when I'm NOT supposed to be ovulating Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I supposed theres always the chance I O'ed sometime today already and missed the surge. My ovaries have been sore all day in my back and twinging in front so I cant really tell whats going on.

Just to be sure I did take an HPT too and did get the trigger + (which was fun to see since I've never seen a BFP before Chat Icon even though its not real).. SO i know the meds in the shot are in my system - just curious if I was supposed to have an LH surge or not by now. Triggered about 20 hours ago.

Re: Questions about Ovidrel Trigger

I took ovidrel once for my iui. If you can believe it.. it did cause ovulation pain for me. And since i was having an iui they agreed that it was ovulation pain. I had to have back to back iui's since i had not ovulated by the first iui.

Good luck.

Just so you know they say its 24 to 36 hours after the shot that you release.

Yup - 24 to 36 hours after the shot you're supposed to O.

I think if you BD like you plan you'll definatly cover your bases. You'll have some there "waiting", some during O, and some after just to make sure !! As long as DH doesn't have any issues (which I am assuming he doesn't b/c you're doing TI)

I did the Ovidrel shot late night on the 6th (around 11:30pm) and didn't really have any side effects from it. I did have O cramps on Monday morning (had my IUI late monday morning) but that was it.

Good luck !! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

i took it btwn 8 and 10pm on a saturday and ovulated on monday. I didn't have any side effects from the shot, but I had a lot of follies, so I had lots of cramping.

Thanks ladies! I am hoping that I do feel O (I did feel it the one time I naturally Oed).
I have heard of some people having to do a second trigger shot. Why is this and how would I know if I needed it??
Do you think the two eggs will release at the same time or at separate times??
TIA!

Re: Questions about Ovidrel Trigger

the ovidrel will cause the 2 eggs to be released at about the same time. probably around 36 hours after the trigger. your BD schedule sounds good. the only side effects i noticed from the ovidrel were pregnancy symptoms a few days after i took the shot.

if you have an OPK, you can double check your ovulation the next day with that. as long as the trigger works, it will come up positive. unless you go for a sono, i don't know if you can confirm 100% that you ovulated. but that's what the ovidrel is for so try not to worry about that. good luck!

Re: Questions about Ovidrel Trigger

My ovulations were always around the 36 hr mark after.

I think the 2nd shot is if you didn't do the 1st right (no + on HPT).

Hit it up again the next day: it can't hurt.

Finally, for all of my IUIs, I just waited for my period after getting my BFN. I never saw the point of having a beta. My period never came late... my 2nd phase was always 16-17 days.

Good luck. May everything align!

Re: Questions about Ovidrel Trigger

I didn't have any side effects...no O pain or anything.

The month we got pg, I took the shot in the late afternoon, BD that night, 24 hours later, 48 hours later (I think that ended up being a morning before work...ugh!), and the next night just for insurance. It worked, so all of the effort was worth it Chat Icon

Re: Questions about Ovidrel Trigger **UPDATE WITH NEW ?**

I think the surge is a surge and then goes away, how far after did u take the test...

OPK measures LH, the trigger is HCG
It doesnt cause u to ovulate and produce LH, it just uses the HCG to make you O so I think it woulndt show up...

Re: Questions about Ovidrel Trigger **UPDATE WITH NEW ?**

I am really not sure if it would show up or not because I never tested when I did the trigger shot.
But, it sounds like you have or are getting ready to O from your symptoms. So, just follow your plan and try not to stress.

Re: Questions about Ovidrel Trigger **UPDATE WITH NEW ?**

yeah im pretty sure that i did O sometime between yesterday and today. my temp was up this morning but not super high - it was kinda in between pre and post - O range so its hard to tell.
today my ovaries are like superbly sore. so i think I either O'ed yesterday sometime or this morning sometime... either way i think DH and I have done all that we can!! i was just curious if i should consider today or tomorrow 1DPO.

Re: Questions about Ovidrel Trigger **UPDATE WITH NEW ?**

From when i had my iui's my LH was tested before the trigger. After the trigger it really didnt matter. I took the trigger twice. The first time, i o'ed in less than 12 hours. mybody was ready. The second monitoring, i o'ed in the 24-36 hour range. After that, my re decided i didnt need to trigger anymore since they had my hormones down to knowing when i would o with meds. I tried 4 natural cycles of iui's. First two were with Ovidrel. Last 2 were natural.

Good luck, I hope it works.
