what's the point of ovidrel?
Ok, I know it's to trigger........
But two questions.....
1- how do they know the egg just won't drop on it's own?
and...
2- Why can't they just give you the injection in the office? This will be the first injection I ever give myself so I'm just a little apprehensive!

1 - They don't know if you will drop the eggs on your own. This is a fool proof way to make sure they do.
2 - You will O 12-36 hours after the shot, this way they can time your IUI "perfectly".

Thanks, though we are doing timed intercourse! So, I'm wondering if we will still need to use it!

Better off doing it and acting like rabbits for a few days , then not knowing at all if you've really O'd.

haha ok thanks, I was just curious if it was absolutely necessary (trying to find excuses not to prick myself with any needles! )
but I'll just have to take one for the team and do it I am so needle-phobic, which has GOT to change if my RE moves me to injectables at some point!!

Re: what's the point of ovidrel?
I needle is SO small, it really doesn't hurt much. If you have your DH do it and you look away... you may not feel much at all.
As to whether or not it is worthwhile... that's a personal decision between you & your RE.
My ovulation date would be pretty variable & make "timed" intercourse not so easy (and I used up hundreds of dollars worth of OPKs). I'm assuming you are using Clomid or something similar... they can also "time" your trigger based on egg maturity.

Re: what's the point of ovidrel?
Your dr office may do it for you. If you are really apprehensive about giving yourself the shot, just call and ask.
This month was my first time and I was nervous too. But the needle is so thin, you barely feel it break the skin.
good luck!

This was my first month too !! I was SUPER nervous about it and DH is a total needle-phobe so there was NO way he was helping.
I just pinched my skin REALLY hard, counted to three and did it. After all that worrying & it was practically nothing !!
Good Luck !!

Re: what's the point of ovidrel?
I used Ovidrel and timed intercourse and loved that I knew, pretty much, exaclty when I was going to ovulate. I hated not knowing if I was going to O or guessing when it would be. I got pg on my second cycle of using it (with Femara).
I am not a big fan of needles and hated the idea of giving myself the shot. But, it really isn't bad. You just feel a tiny prick and that's it....not painful at all. You could have DH do it, if that would be easier for you. I had to give it to myself during the day when DH was at work, so I didn't have that option.
Good luck!

See, now i am wondering if Dr. B is going to give me the shot in the office. He didnt give me a script for the shot but i started the Femara on Saturday and he told me to come back Thursday which will be CD9 and hopefully he can "release an egg" somewhere between then and Friday and do the IUI the next day.
BTW-i have been crying uncontrallably at night with taking the Femara. I thought the first night i took it was because i do that every so often. But it's been EVERY NIGHT. It has to be the Femara.

I went on CD 10 for a Femara follie check and had a "lead" 13mm. Went back on CD 12 and that same one was 16mm by 18mm. The office faxed a script to FREEDOM PHARMACY for the Ovidrel and I had it the next day (Saturday) delivered by Fed Ex - I paid 100% OOP for it and it was only $44.25 TOTAL !!
I did the shot 1130pm on Saturday night, BD on Sunday morning and did an IUI Monday morning.
If he is going to give you a script for Ovidrel - have them send it to Freedom if you have to pay OOP for it. It's about 1/2 of what it is if you go to CVS or another pharmacy !! Only thing with Freedom is someone MUST sign for the delivery. I had them deliver it to my dad's house because I wasn't sure if I was going to be home - they had no problem with it at all.
Good Luck !!!
