How to switch from using wee wee pads inside, to going outside.
So we got our puppy back in Dec. when we got that blizzard. He was only 5 lbs. and wanted nothing to do with outside. So at this point we basically have him trained to go on the wee wee pads inside. He's started going outside with our other dog but he doesn't do anything out there except walk around.
So my question is.......when the weather starts to warm up, how do we transition him from going inside to going outside? Do we bring the wee wee pads outside and then eventually take them away? Or do we basically have to retrain him to go outside?

Re: How to switch from using wee wee pads inside, to going outside.
We had to retrain our pup to go outside for the same reason. We we did was when he went to the weewee pad and we knew he was about to pee we would run a pick him up and say the code word "outside" and take him outside. After he peed we would praise him lots and give him treats.
For us, it took about a week of this for him to even pee outside in the first place, and yes that meant running in and out all day for a week but when he finally peed outside and got his reward, he learned very quickly. Pooping outside took a couple a weeks for our pup though he's a "shy" pooper so that could have something to do with it.
Good Luck!
