Prague and Vienna in a week?

Do-able? Where to stay?

A chain hotel like Hilton, Sheraton, etc? Is there a boutique hotel you can recommend? For both places?

I just need a starting off point - like stay at this hotel and everything you need to see is within walking distance...

i think its doable. but maybe try doing it like thur-sun (10 days - 2 weekends) if possible.
I stayed in Prague in a boutique hotel in the center. If you want I can try to find it (this was in 2004)
It was nice to have everything within walking distance.
One thing I would warn you against is the mafia/scams there. For Ex: we took a cab from the train station to our hotel and they charged us $60 meanwhile when we were leaving prague, we walked to the train station (7 min walk) - so just be careful. always count your change.... etc...
prague is a beautiful city - you will def enjoy it :)

oh and most hotels have breakfast included - try to get that - that way you eat in your hotel - your full of energy & you're out and can get lunch out on town.

Golden Well in Prague and Alstadt Hotel in Vienna...

Thanks for the tip about the cab scams and we'd definitely do breakfast in the hotel!!
