a puppy and a cat...
my puppy will NOT leave my 4 yr old cat alone. He is constantly going after her, and my cat is getting mad! We have blocked off the bedroom for the cat, and the dog cannot go in it.
But we have found our puppy has come to LOVE cat food and even grosser, the cat liter poops. he is eating them
will he ever grow out of this phase for will i have to keep this area sectioned off forever....??? also does anyone have any suggestions to do w/ my pup

Re: a puppy and a cat...
hershey was like this when we first got him... he still wants to play with our cat all the time lol -- the cat doesnt really mind all that much (except when he wants to just relax lol) the only time we intervene is when hershey will continue to bother him for a long period of time... usually, they just work it out with each other... and honestly, i think it worked out better that way -- they both felt out each others boundaries and hershey knows for the most part when to back off and when he can play
with the food/litter box thing, that is something that you need to teach the dog from day 1 that eating the cat's stuff is NOT OKAY... each time we caught hershey eating the cats litter or food, we would say NO very sternly -- even if he LOOKED like he was about to go after the food or litter we would catch him right away.... he hasnt attempted to eat anything of the cats since he was about 6 months old
its hard but once they get used to each other and know each others boundaries it becomes a lot easier with a dog and cat! good luck!

Re: a puppy and a cat...
we have two cats and two dogs... the cat food we now have on the kitchen counter and the cats eat there... i am finding it a problem now to keeo the cats away from the dog food!!!
Weve had both dogs now for close to 3 years and they STILL want to play with the cats... cats are smart, when they want to play they will, otherwise they will hid from the dogs.. just make sure you cut your cats claws so they dont scratch the puppy by accident!
As for the cat poopie, we bought an enclosed cat litter box for that reason... its a lot harder for the dogs to get to it... but we do find them on occasion having a feast
