Preventing dry chocolate chip cookies?
I'm one of those "stick to the recipe" people so I don't know how to prevent my chocolate chip cookies from drying out. I've made them in this stove before in the summer, they came out perfect. Then I made them last winter, followed the recipe exactly, and they were much crunchier and dry.
I like soft cookies, especially since they will have nuts in them too. I'm going to be making a batch for the transport company that is bringing our adopted dog to us from Texas. I have one chance to get this right!
Do you make any changes to your cookies in the winter, add more butter or oil, to make sure they don't dry out?

Re: Preventing dry chocolate chip cookies?
I don't think it's a winter thing - I think it's an oven thing (it is for me anyway). It took me a few tries but I've learned that based on the size of the cookies, exactly how long I need to cook them for (if the recipe says 11-3 minutes I have to cook them for 11 minutes. Plus, if you leave them on the cookie sheet to cool, they will continue to cook b/c the tray is still hot, so you should try and transfer them to a rack as soon as possible. If you can't do that you might want to undercook them just a bit (ie. for 10 minutes).

I undercook them. They always continue to cook until they are cool enough to transfer them.

Re: Preventing dry chocolate chip cookies?
Maybe what I could do is shave off a minute or two and make a test batch, undercooked. I do have baking racks to cool the cookie sheet and then transfer them pretty quick.
I'm just afraid if I undercook, they're going to be gross in the middle!

When you take them out they should look undercooked in the center and golden on the edge. They will be fine & perfectly cooked in a few minutes. Also as soon as they are cool enough put them in tupperware or wrap in plastic on a plate.

when you store them in a container put a slice of bread on the bottom, it will keep your cookies so fresh and soft!!! It really works!!!

I agree, I also put a slice a bread in the container and it keeps them nice and soft for days.
