Re: those who have retrievers....
We use flint river for my golden and bernie. It is about $60 for 2 40 pound bags.. It is a higher density food so you feed them a little less than the other brands, which makes the bags last a little longer.

Re: those who have retrievers....
Switching to Evo Herring and Salmon which is the best food I could find for my Lab(s). We feel they deserve human-quality food.
They will scavenge and beg for food regardless of how much they are fed; just a Lab thing.

they dont necessarily... however some tend to have alot of medical issues such as allergies because they are so inbred... my golden has allergies as well as major joint issues which is why i was more curious about it being retirever specific... they actually have several brands out there now that make retriever specific blends so that they get the ideal balance for their awful joints (which is why i would never by a pure bred again)

Re: those who have retrievers....
If you research reputable breeders that have valid OFA certificates for Labrador hips, you stand a better chance of not having issues in the younger years. We have the certs for Brinkley's parents, grand parents, great grandparents etc. and they're all good. I've had his hips xrayed - no problems.
So it's not right to assume it's all purebred Labs, mostly it's the ones bred by irresponsible backyard breeders and raised with cr@p nutrition and care that have the worst case scenarios.
Even with the best history, it just happens sometimes also, but the occurrence should much less.
We are only rescuing from here on out so we will get what we get and deal with it the best we can.

Re: those who have retrievers....
right now, we are still feeding Hershey Nutro Puppy Formula... at the end of this bag, we'll start switching him to adult food since he's a little over 13 months old!
more than likely, we'll stick with Nutro brand food.... we've never had an issue with it!

Thats what we have given our Golden since she was a pup...as she got older we gave her the adult one...she is currently on Nutro for Large Breed...since my monster is 95lbs

i did say that SOME have issues... mine is one of those some.. i made the mistake of purchasing one from a store, hwoever the reasoning was the my dying first husband fell in love with him, not because of breed, but because he fell in love with the actual dog.....
