I didn't do this with my RE, but another doctor. I weighed about 110 pounds (I might have weighed up to 115 when it was done), and I ended up fainting for the first time in my life. But I can't remember if i had to fast.... if I was allowed to eat I probably didn't so I could get to the lab first thing in the morning. Definitely eat if you are allowed to. The girls in the lab were wonderful- shoving lolipops in my mouth and they would not let me leave until they were convinced I was ok. If you feel lightheaded, tell them- I probably didn't but chose to "suck it up" instead of informing them. I guarantee they would have stopped for a bit, giving me some lolipops and started again after a waiting time.

Good luck!!!! I am sure most people have NO problem, especially if they ate beforehand.

Re: lots and lots of bloodwork.......

Yea my first set of blood work I think was at 12 vials... I brought orange juice with me and didn't look at the vials being filled... (then I would faint).

Re: lots and lots of bloodwork.......

I had that done. They were testing for blood clotting. That's how they found out about my thrombosis.

Re: lots and lots of bloodwork.......

I had 31 vials, fasting blood work when I first started seeing my RE. DH took me on a Saturday morning (he had to have blood taken as well) and then took me right to the diner for a nice breakfast. I was thankful the diner was close because I was very light headed.

Re: lots and lots of bloodwork.......

If you normally get light headed, I would ask the RE to split it up, in half at least. I had to fast for my panel because he tested my insulin and glucose and I passed out twice! It was actually pretty scary because the ladies at the lab said I was unresponsive. From now on, I'm gonna do no more than 10 at a time if I'm fasting. Good Luck Chat Icon

Re: lots and lots of bloodwork.......

I just went to my first RE appt last Friday, and they took 16 vials. The girl gave me a glucose drink to sip while she was doing it. You can ask them for that , it definitley helped!

Re: lots and lots of bloodwork.......

I did this too. It wasnt that bad. DH and I went to a diner right afterwards so I was fine. Maybe bring a juice box or cookie so you have something right afterwards. It honestly went very quick. The only thing was, my arm was terribly sore for like a day or 2.

You'll be fine Chat Icon Good luck!!
