For those who are CF but might have children
Trying to move away from "venting posts" since it upsets people
How do you see yourself raising a child?
me personally i think i would be a tough mom. i was a tough aunt to my niece and nephew. When they acted out or had a tantrum i pulled them aside and told them it wasn't acceptable and was very stern. If it was my kid and they had a bad outburst i know i would slap them on the hand or butt. But when they did something good they were well awarded just like i plan to do if i have children.
I also do not think i would take my kid everywhere until they are kinda a mini adult. What i mean is not bringing a 2 year old to a $$$ restaurant, or try to go xmas shopping with kid in tow in a crowded store. Not because i think its horrible to do those things i just don't think its appropriate IMO.
Another thing is i don't think i want to do all the shots, vaccines that is "required" now. What the hell is wrong with a kid getting chickenpox these days? Why do they need 20 shots when I only had 8 let's say? I just don't get it. I also would never get "MY" kid a flu shot unless they had serious health conditions. * now please parents jumping on here don't go i got my kid a flu shot and "you just don't understand" line THIS IS A "WHAT DO YOU THINK" you would do not me asking as a parent what did you do.

Re: For those who are CF but might have children
Since I was 12 years old, I've been an Aunt. So I've had so much experience with kids, to get a jist of the kind of mom I'll be.
Without a doubt, I'm sure I'll be the tough one and disciplinarian. I think I'll be understanding though and hopefully easy to talk to. My nieces and nephews feel very comfortable talking with me, yet they also respect me and know that I have just as much of a right to discipline them as their parents do.
But as tough as I'll be, I hope to be just as fun. Letting them have some freedoms, but making sure they know who is boss.
Not sure how I'll feel about vaccinations and such, cause I really don't know much about them, and when the time comes, I hope to be informed.

I am jumping on just to say that I will be basically the same. The only thing I would do that you won't is bring my child shopping. I will not bring her to a spa or pricey restaurant. That is just me. I am more of a disciplinarian type.

I had a lot of big plans before I had DS. I will do this. I will do that.
I have to laugh at myself now.
While I am strict with DS, a lot of my "thinking" went out the window.
Geez, I was not expenting a kid to cry from 9am to 9pm every day for 6 weeks when he was a NB requiring him to hold him for 12 hours.
But I also thought I would wear those cute outfit with high heels while PG. Then it got to 95 degree when DS was born. Hell got lose!!!!!

i give it up for preggers who get all dressed up. I look at them puzzled going how the hell are you comfortable? I think I would be lucky to go out in a huge shirt and loose yoga paints but then again after gaining weight that is pretty much what i wear now anyway.

I am pretty sure I would be an overwhelmed, disorganized mess & that's part of the reason I am CF at this point.

Re: For those who are CF but might have children
Well we defintly PLAN on having kids...of course we have never tried so hopefully we will be able to
Either way I always knew I would be a mom.
I plan to parent how my parents did.
My parents were pretty clear with me--
*get good grades (your PERSONAL BEST) they knew my capabiliites and expected me to reach them.
*be truthful--if it is hard to tell us the truth we will NEVER disown you for ANYTHING you tell us...but DO NOT LIE
*appreciate what you have and don't walk around like the world owes you something.
I am talking more about values here I guess.
My parents were cool--I had a curfew but if I had something to do they would extend it.
They gave me freedoms and bc of that I rarely abused it (if I did I covered it well )
They never snooped through my stuff or anything--I find parents who do this to really violate trust.
Basically I will give my children freedom to make their own choices and hope that the values my husband and I instill in them are good enough to carry them through.
I do know that people need live and learn to some extent and while I am sure it will be hard as hell to not stop and try to catch every fall--my parents taught me that to raise mature, well rounded children sometimes the best you can do is hope they listened to you and will make the right calls
