DSLR camera - recommendations

Okay, so as a gift for "big" birthday that I had, DH will be getting me a DSLR camera. I'll be new to the SLR world, so I want something I will be able to figure out over time. At the same time, I also want something really good. It will be a while before I get another "big" gift for a "big" birthday lol.

Re: DSLR camera - recommendations

Thanks for replying. The Nikon D90 is so much more expensive than the other two. Is it significantly better?

I have a D60 and love it. I decided against the 90 b/c I don't need to have the extras they put on it. the 60 is great as an entry DSLR.

Re: DSLR camera - recommendations

The D60 is more than enough camera for anyone just starting on SLRs. I am glad I got a NIKON because there is so much information out there about using NIKON cameras. Lucky for me, I have access to a few professional photographers. Although they know a lot about all cameras, they all use Nikon and they can answer my specific questions. I try not to bother them but I am glad they know my camera in case I have a question that I can't find the answer to.

Re: DSLR camera - recommendations

every model you go up is better but you usually replace your camera every 8 years on average. Sometimes sooner if your hooked and have the money. So it really depends on your level that you would like to reach.

i only shoot with a D90 and i am considered a "pro" which i hate that term because i don't think i am. My dad on the other hand shoots with a D3 and he is just a hobbyist but now he is exhibiting so he just got bumped up a notch LoL He had the means to buy a new camera every three years. I hope to get his D700 soon because i really need the extra perks.

As far as beginner or someone who just needs family pics and the usual vaca shots nothing that you really need to be pushing a pro model i would stick with a D60. Point and shoots are amazing quality and easy to use, so the only reason to go a SLR is if you just want to learn how to truly control the camera D60 gives you that intro with out giving you too much to "mess up"

Re: DSLR camera - recommendations

Thanks for the help. I guess i wanted the "best" because I am looking to learn more so that it's more than just a casual hobby, and who knows when I can get another one lol.
