Baby Furniture..long
DH and I went out on Saturday looking at baby furniture. We found a set we liked at BRU. Not too expensive...crib, changing table (with the pad on top) and a 5 drawer chest of drawers...all together would probably total about $1100 (with mattress). We both agreed it was the nicest one for us.
Then...we went to a store that is here in NJ called Crib and Teen City. We fell in love with a set...same type and # of pieces, but the price tag would probably be closer to $2000.
My mom said she and dad are buying the furniture (and maybe split it with DH's parents) and to get whatever we want. But...if we get the more expensive furniture, are we sure we are going to use it for years?
The more expensive one was made so much better...and they have pieces you can add as the child gets older...such as add a mirror to the changing table/dresser. There is a top on the changing table (where you would keep you diapers/lotions and stuff)...it detaches and you can buy legs for it and it becomes a nightstand. I think we could use this for many years for the child.
But...I'm not sure what to do. I told my mom to come out to NJ and look at both sets in person and then we could decide. Any advice/opiionions?

I say go with the more expensive set if you really see yourself using it when your baby is a toddler/child. If you think that you may buy the baby a new toddler bed in a few years, then just go with the cheaper one.

Sounds like the $2000 is the better deal, especially if it's made better... JMHO

which crib & teen city?
is the crib a convertible?
we set a budget of 2500 for crib and 2 dressers. we found a set we were going to order from crib outlet, but my mom found a great deal upstate for better made furniture. we are glad we went this route because we plan to have use this furniture into toddler and teen years.
do you plan on getting a glider?

There is a crib and teen city right here in Paramus...I think there is one close to you also. The crib does convert to a toddler bed. I had to choose between a glider and the 5 drawer chest...I picked the extra chest of drawers. I figure I would get more use out of more clothing space in the long-run. The room is not big enough for the 2 dressers, crib and chair.

Posted by luvsun27 The room is not big enough for the 2 dressers, crib and chair. that's what we thought as well, but everything does fit. what are the room dimensions (i want to say ours is something like 9 by 12)?
if you are going with the convertible, i would go for the better quality (although in our case the crib is the lesser quality than the drawers, but not by much).

Being that I over-bought furniture when we remodeled the house because even though I had measurements, it all didn't fit the way I wanted it to. So...I told DH that I would just get the 2 pieces of furniture and the crib...if there is room after everything else is set up, I may get the glider. However....I do not plan to BF, so I'm not sure if the glider is still all that necessary anyway.
