On Clomid and SO disappointed...
I don't usually post on this board, but I was hoping you ladies could offer some advice...
Just some background on me... I have PCOS and my DH and I have been TTC since May. My GYN wanted me to be off the pill for a while before we moved on to Provera/Clomid, so last month was my first cycle on both.
I just got back from my gyno visit and I am SO disappointed!
The 50mg of Clomid did not work... my eggs didn't even budge. Absolutely no sign of maturing. Now it's back to square one. I start Provera tomorrow, then I move to the 100mg of Clomid and see what happens. If I don't O this time, I will have to be up'd to 150mg, and I'm really dreading having to go through this process AGAIN without even O'ing. I've heard so many great stories about people getting pregnant on the first or second round of Clomid. I had my hopes so high that I would have made some progress... I was looking forward to starting the second cycle with the knowledge from the first, and now I'm just having doubts.
Have any of you experienced this and what were your next steps? Did you go through the motions of increasing the dosage of Clomid little by little, or did your doctors recommend something else?
Thanks so much for reading.

Re: On Clomid and SO disappointed...
i posted on your other post but since this one is more detailed i will post here too.
i didnt have any response from 50mg clomid.
are you seeing an RE? what are your main PCOS symptoms?
mine is high LH which toughens the ovaries and makes it harder for follies to mature and release. that's why clomid didnt work for me.
my RE went straight to femara and injectables after one clomid cycle since i was such a low responder. however on the injectables i overstimmed so now im on BCP hoping the follies go away so i can start a new lower injectable cycle. i will also add that i had a mild allergic reaction to clomid (hives and cold symptoms), AND that my RE doesnt love clomid and the only reason i even did one cycle of it was because i already had the script filled by my ob/gyn so we went with it for one cycle.
with PCOS clomid doesnt work for everyone - it really depends on what your PCOS symptoms are. i would recommend having bloodwork done if you haven't already, and consider seeing RE, since they are better equipped to deal with the various symptoms and protocol for PCOS.
feel free to FM me if you want to chat!

Re: On Clomid and SO disappointed...
I tried 100mg and 150mg of Clomid and neither dosage worked for me. We moved on to injectibles/IUI and I had a great response, unfortunately after 4 cycles still no BFP. I got pregnant with twins after my first IVF cycle, they were born in November.
I agree with pp about seeing an RE if you are not already. Good luck

Re: On Clomid and SO disappointed...
Clomid like many other IF treatments is a trial and error thing, where the dosage may need to be adjusted to get the desired response
I feel like a broken record, but I can't stress enough how important it is really to be under the care of an RE when it comes to IF issues (if you are not already)
I have PCOS, and because I was comfortable with my ob/gyn , wasted 7 months with him on Clomid , improperly monitored, never received an HSG ( to make sure my tubes were not blocked, which all the Clomid in the world would not have gotten me pg., had they been)....
He also never told me that Clomid can have a drying effect on the cervical mucous , so I eventaully needed an IUI to bypass that issue...They also do not reccomend you taking Clomid for more than 12 cycles and by the time I had gone to an RE, I had already been on it for 7
Luckily I did finally switch, had the proper testing done and conceived my DS on the 3rd Clomid 150mg/IUI cycle with the help of an RE...My DD was the result of IVF ( after some failed IUI's)
Just wanted to share my experience with you, because I wish someone would have done it for me ..
Good luck to you !!!

Re: On Clomid and SO disappointed...
I don't have PCOS... But used Clomid 3 times: 100mg, 100mg and then 150mg.
I was not able to be monitored the 1st time around ovulation, the second I had 2 follies and too much hope, and the last time had 2 folllies.
Did IUIs the last two times without success.
The way they titrate Clomid is to watch both your follicle response and your lining & see hoe they both change with increased dose.
Good luck!

Re: On Clomid and SO disappointed...
My experience was different than yours since I had a different issue...polyps in my tubes. But, I just wanted to agree with the pp and suggest that you see an RE. My first cycle on Clomid with my OB was not monitored and he just didn't have the in depth knowledge that my RE has.
Good luck and try to keep your spirits up. I know it is hard, but you have a lot of other options ahead of you...you'll get there!

The PCOS symptoms that I've had are absent periods, weight gain, hair thinning, etc. I was diagnosed when I was 19 by an endocrynologist who put me on BC immediately. I was on BC up until May 08 and decided to come off when we wanted to start TTC. During the time that I was on BC, I had no symptoms of PCOS, but when I came off in May... it was like all h e ll broke loose. I put on 20 lbs immediately (I'm working on losing it now - NOT easy), my hair started thinnng, acne, you name it. I didn't get AF until my GYN put me on Provera 2 months ago. I'm not sure if these symptoms are similar to yours...
I absolutely love my OB/GYN and I trust him fully, but I just don't think he is monitoring me properly AT ALL. I think it's about time to move on to a RE.
THANKS AGAIN! I really appreciate it!!!

Wow - Thank you! My OB/GYN did not even mention the 12 cycle max for Clomid OR the side effects.
Congratulations on DD and THANK YOU for sharing your story with me. It really shed some light on this whole thing. On to a RE I go!!

im sorry this month was a bust but what cd did u go in for ur dr to say clomid didnt work? d why is he starting u on provera tomorrow if u just got checked .The reason im asking this is bc if hes starting u on provera tomorrow that means he checked u around cd28 (most ob's think EVERYONE O's on cd 14 and have perfect 28 day cycle) and u could have ovulated already and not see anything in the ovaries. did they do bloodwork to see if u O'ed (check ur progesterone)? Clomid can make ur cycle longer (usually does - I ovulated on cd 24 with the ovidrel shot - wouldve been longer but the shot made me ovulate ) after u ovulate u get bloodwork done 7 days later to make sure ur progesterone is high enough - if its not then u are put on supplements just in case u are pregnant. Ur best bet is seeing a RE. I was seeing a reg ob/gyn and he gave me a script of clomid 50 mg for 6 months and told me to call him when i got pregnant I made an appt asap with a RE and made sure i was monitored daily until i O'ed good luck

Ok so it doesn’t sound like your ob/gyn has done real PCOS bloodwork to see where your hormone levels are. That is the key with PCOS – since there are numerous symptoms and different issues require very different protocols.
I suspected I had PCOS after going off BCP and never getting AF. Then I charted temps, discovered that I did O for a cycle, and then continued charting to find out that I haven’t O’ed since. Not Oing was what pushed me to go to an RE cause my ob/gyns (I tried two different ones) didn’t really give me the time of day. One tried telling me just to relax and BD which made me , so then I went to a new one who gave me clomid, two lines of instructions, and never told me when to come back. The next day I made an appointment with an RE and I am so glad I did because I could have wasted months on clomid thinking I was going to O when my LH was never going to allow that to happen anyway.
Point being, since you already know you have PCOS, see an RE and get bloodwork so you can treat your PCOS symptoms in the way that makes the most sense for your body, and not just clomid to ovulate – when there are probably other underlying issues that are causing you not to ovulate. Believe me, you will not regret seeing an RE - but you might regret waiting a few more cycles.

Re: On Clomid and SO disappointed...
Yesterday was CD24 and when I told him that I haven't gotten a + on my OPK, he went in and did a sonogram to see what was going on. There was absolutely no change from when he did it a month before... so I guess he just went off the assumtion that since nothing has happened during that cycle, that we would just start fresh with the 100mg.
I JUST acrually made an appointment with an RE, so hopefully he will monitor me the way that he should!!
Thank you!

No, he hasn't done bloodwork. I'm seeing Dr. Braverman on 1/16 and I'm excited to move forward with this and be monitored properly. THANK YOU again!!!
