Weird policy for dining at Sushi Park
Has anyone else been there recently? This is the same place that was on the news about a year or so ago because they used height in order to determine whether they'd charge for kids. They charged for kids who were above their height requirement and someone complained about the discrimination against tall kids (no comment on that).
Now they have reduced their adult price from $24.95 to $14.95 but they have instituted a "wasting food policy." If you take food from the buffet and leave it over, they charge the original price--so, it is a $10.00 wasting food fee. I think it's bizarre. If I take a piece of sushi that is wrapped in seaweed but I do not eat seaweed, I pay extra? I took something that was too spicy. Was I supposed to eat it? Who is the judge of whether I have wasted food? Doesn't this policy sort of encourage people to put food back on the buffet after they have taken it to their tables ?
It sounds great that they do not want people to waste food but the policy is too weird for me and I don't think I'll be going there anymore.

Re: Weird policy for dining at Sushi Park
We went their a few times recently and always have a few pieces left over of something and they never charged us extra. Many buffets are doing this now to eliminate people taking a ton of food and leaving most of their plate full. Many times our eyes are bigger than our stomachs and they are trying to eliminate having a ton of waste which i support. At buffets of all kinds, people are more likely to stack a ton of food and won't force themselves to finish because after all it is a buffet and you have the ability to eat however much of whatever food you feel like. All that sign means is a ton of extra food....not a piece of seaweed or one piece of food left over.

Re: Weird policy for dining at Sushi Park
I understand what you mean. Some people are disgusting about what they take at a buffet. I still do not like this policy and I think that there will be people putting food back on the buffets. Some people would do anything not to get charged an extra $10.00. I was even thinking that if someone leaves over too much, they may be able to tip the busboy $2 to get out of the $10.00 charge.

We've never been charged for a roll that wasn't eaten. Also the buffet is manned pretty well. I doubt there is anyone putting food back on the buffet.
I do think it's a good policy because when you go up for something else, you consider how much you really want to eat. Also having a picky eater for a child, I could see the amount of waste on trying different food.

Re: Weird policy for dining at Sushi Park
There's an all you can eat Sushi place in Bayside that you order your food at the table and it's all once price. They also strongly urge you to not order more than you are going to eat. But I don't think they charge extra. I think that is extreme.

Re: Weird policy for dining at Sushi Park
This is actually pretty common at all of the all-you-can eat sushi places I've been to. The only one I know of that doesn't charge for uneaten food is Minado in Carle Place (although it's been a while since I was there).
My DH told me that one time he ordered too much, and he and his friend were stuffing uneaten pieces of sushi into their empty cans of soda Obviously those are the kind of people these sushi places are trying to look out for!

Re: Weird policy for dining at Sushi Park
This doesn't bother me even a little bit. Sushi Park has decent sushi. $15 dollars all you can eat is quite the bargain. Even $25 all you can eat is a bargain. I figure either way .. I win.
Also - based on the other posters experiences - it seems like your waste would need to be pretty extreme in order to qualify for that $10 surcharge.

Re: Weird policy for dining at Sushi Park
It's just too vague and subjective. I would no longer try the various rolls but I'd stick to the fresh cuts of sushi meat that probably cost them more. That is if I went back.

Re: Weird policy for dining at Sushi Park
Totally strange imo...
I once went to an all-you-can-eat-sushi...they were giving TINY sliver of sushi with MOUNDS of rice, so I was peeling offthe sushi sashimi style and eating a lil bit of rice.
They tried to cut me off saying I needed to finsih my plate
UMMMM you are giving me ALL rice...I know sushi is expensive but don't tell me it is ALL I CAN EAT sushi and then deprive me of sushi
I boycotted the place--it closed after that, I guess I wasn't the only one calling BS on their "deal"

Re: Weird policy for dining at Sushi Park
I've seen wasting policies at just about every single buffet I've ever been to, especially chinese or sushi.
In order for you to have to be charged though, it usually is a crazy amount that you are wasting...like plates of food versus just 1 or 2 rolls.

Re: Weird policy for dining at Sushi Park
I feel like the whole idea of this is a Seinfeld episode. I kept wondering if they were going to bring a "wasting judge" to inspect the table.
My parents are buffet fanatics and they never told me about anyhthing like this nor have I seen it before. To me it is something that would only be good in theory.
