are 3 follies enough for IVF success?
anyone out there have a BFP after a cycle with only 3 or 4 follies? I"m so disappointed that I only made that many, usually I make 8 or 9 good ones. It's really saddening since this is my last attempt possible. Maybe there'll be more next sono...
But the good Dr. B said that it may happen still since we are going for quality not quantity!

Well, figure this... in places like England (I believe that is the country) they only transfer 1 embryo. So ultimately, you only need one fabulous embie. Good luck!!!!

Re: are 3 follies enough for IVF success?
I was surprised when I spoke to an RE and they spoke about "ideal" number of follies.
They mentioned if there are too many follies developing: there are many that are not mature... so they will not fertilize & mature further appropriately (almost a follie "waste"). They mentioned the "goal" was about 10 follies.
If you have 3 good follies... I think you have a decent shot if they can retrieve them.
I'd go with your RE on this one...I'm sure they know more about your chances.

Re: are 3 follies enough for IVF success?
Ok, so I went through PGD/IVF, had 4 follies retrieved, 3 fertilized and with the PGD all three were unaffected with the disorder. We did end up transferring the best two, and we got pregnant with a singleton. I now have a gorgeous baby girl who is almost 5 months old! And she is healthy!
So, it is possible, I am a true success story!

Re: are 3 follies enough for IVF success?
Over the past 3 years I have heard so many amazing stories with just 3 follicles. Once I heard that when they went in for ER they actually retrieved 5 eggs. She almost canceled the cycle. Not sure why they didn't see the others, but sometimes after the trigger shot others catch up. Another crazy one was that they did ER, all were immature, you can imagine the disappointment...only to find that overnight one little egg matured (which is why you need a good lab) and that went on to be successful live birth.
You only need one good egg in there.
Just on the opposite end, I had 15 eggs last IVF cycle, 8 fertilized and not one of them was good.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Re: are 3 follies enough for IVF success?
My very good friend did 3 IVF's with 10-15 eggs retrived on average..all BFN.....
Her last (4th cycle) was the worst cycle she did (but with a happy ending)....they were tracking 5 follies and at RE they only got 2 eggs!!!! Both eggs were mature but only 1 fertilized! The one embryo grew and made it to transfer.....she now has a 14month boy!
As you can see it can happen!!!! GL to you!!
